Manfrotto 516 head adjustments

I cant adjust this brand new head where the pan and tilt movements are fluid. It always seems to have a "catch" in the movement that creates a **** on the screen.

Any suggestions?

SOURCE: Manfrotto Tripod Ball-grip Head 322RC2

If you look on the ring that goes around the ball, on the side by the red tension gauge, you'll see an indentation. It is just barely visible on the product shot above.

In the hole, you'll find what looks like an odd shaped bolt. It is actually a threaded post inside a nut.

Use an Allen wrench (hex key) to tighten this post.

Be careful though, a little tension here goes a long way. You should probably turn it no more than 1/8 to 1/4 turn and then test it. If it still isn't tight enough, repeat until you are satisfied.

You should probably also talk to a trained technician at somepoint to see if the loosening is indicative of a larger problem. I really wouldn't know one way or the other. I just discovered the calibration post by taking mine apart.

SOURCE: 2003 maxima sunroof won't close

Sounds like the sunroof motor is out of time. Needs to be re-timed. There is a retime procedure, (that I would try first) but I don't remember the whole procedure. if you still have the problem, let me know and i will get the whole thing , from the service manual.

SOURCE: Tailgate won't lock on my

I have the solution to every one out there with tailgate lock problems......I had the very same problem but wasnt interested in getting a power lock.......Here goes.....it costs you some wd40 or liquid wrench.....nothing else......open the tail gate.....you will see the screws that hold the handle in place.....take off the two outer screws only....then pop off the handle cover....yes it does come off without breaking.....you will see something shaped like a "C".....it should move back and forth.....with the tailgate closed you should be able to move that "C" back and forth...it swivels on a pivot you can see in the opening above the tailgate handle.......this is the lock mechanism.....mine was seized up.....anyways......with the tailgate still closed squirt some wd40 or liquid wrench in the area directly above the tailgate handle........that "C" thing will move again and your problem is over...email me if you figured it out........
I was delighted with the fix.....and it's so easy to do.....then put everything back in its place......tell everyone you know....

SOURCE: No vertical movement of hydrolic arms when pushing pedal

You will have to bleed the rams to get all the air out just crack the hose's open at the connector and have a person help you open the hoses on both sides and try raising the bucket when you get clear fluid coming out close the nuts on the lines then do the same thing for down position. Check hydraulic fluid level to make sure it does not get so low that you put air in the system. Be sure when you are bleeding to pay attention to fluid flow coming out of the rams is it even? If not you may have a hose that has collapsed. To know if it is look at how much fluid flows out of the hose the one with the lest amount of oil is suspect. Next if it still does not raise pull the pressure valve out of the control Block where the arm is for raising it crack the outer locking nut then remove the valve and see if you have a piece of dirt in the valve seat. If you need more help post it here and Give me the Year and model Number for more precise help for this unit.

How adjust the vertical viewing

are you just mounting a camera to the tripod itself? - you need to purchase a head as well - the head screws onto the top of the tripod, and then the camera fixes to the head, usually with a qr plate.

How should fluid heads be stored?

Alisa: With all 'video tripod heads'...., regardless if the are the original 'true' fluid heads (that actually used a liquid (oil) to achieve 'fluid' type movements) or a modern professional 'fluid' head (that actually uses a clutch mechanism like a cars transmission) or a fluid effect head like the Manfrotto #501HDV (which used nylon discs sandwiching a ball bearing race)...., always store with the pan and tilt mechanisms unlocked!!!! This means the camera platform should be positioned in the 'rest' position (not tilted forward or backwards), also ensure that any counterbalance mechanism is released so as to eliminate strain on the internal mechanisms!!!!
If you remember to do this and don't overload the head..., you will extend the life of your gear significantly

What fluid do i need in my 3066 tripod

they don't use fluid - maybe some grease in the tilt and pan of the head, but the tripod itself doesn't need any.. you might need an adjustment somewhere... I own 3 of these.

There's a wiggle when I try to pan side to side (so there's always a slight **** in the video). This is a fairly new tripod (Manfrotto 7321yb), so not sure if it's a defect, or something that I need to...

The first thing that comes to mind with this issue is that this is not a real video tripod. This is a still tripod. With that said you might just want to try to make sure the pan/tilt locks are fully unlocked, then move the head back and fourth quickly (without the camera attached) for a few seconds to actually warm up the head.
Hope that helps!

Head does tilt smoothly on 516. How do I get it smooth? Eric

Not fully understanding your question. You stated that the "head does tilt smoothly on 516. How do I get it smooth". What are you asking exactly? How to smooth out the pan as well, or how to make it tilt even smoother?

The Pan Tilt Head cannot be removed from my Manfrotto CXPRO3

Extend the center column, there are 3 screws underneath that when unscrewed will allow the head to be tightened or loosened. The head is screwed on about 4 or 5 revolutions. You will need a flat head screwdriver. Take the center column out if you need to to be able to get to the screws.

Which head do i buy with the manfrotto 055xprob

Any head that matches your requirements. Do you want a ball head? A tilt-and-pan head? How much weight will have it to support? The tripod comes without a head because no one except you can decide which is the best head for you.

Fluid head platform is moving before the fluid

Below the head where it attached to the center column is a set of three screws. Back them out a little bit and then tighten the head, then screw those three grub screws back in to lock the head.

FH101 head jerky panning movement

Not knowing where you reside, I don't know if a certain product is available to you but there are several different brands and some generics in the US. The original oil additive was called STP, there was a competing brand called Motor Honey (shudder) and in many auto supply houses you can find a generic sold for 'high mileage engines.' It is a refined petroleum product with a very high viscosity and is sticky in nature. If you can access the surfaces causing the problem, a dot ot two on either will probably help with the jerkiness you are having. I have used the stuff for similar gliding surfaces and the only disadvantage is the tendency to 'creep' so keeping the applied quantity low is a must.
