Question about Gateway FPD1765 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

Screen Works With One Computer But Not This Mine

I have the Gateway FDP1765 and it worked fine the other day when I first powered it up. It then started to cut out and put white and black lines across the screen. I eventually turned it off and waited till the next day. I turned it on the next day and it just gave me white lines continuously. I thought maybe it was the PC so I brought my PC to my friends house and he tested the PC and it worked great. So I thought it's just the monitor. Then, I take my monitor upstairs to my brother's room and tried it with his PC and it worked fine, no problems, no white lines, no anything. I brought it back to my PC and tried to hook it up and it gave me a screen with white lines again. Can anyone help me figure out why the monitor will work with one PC and not the PC I have? :(

I see a white port and blue port on the back of the monitor, which I only have the capability for the blue port with my PC. I tried the two seperate blue ports on the back of the PC, in which both don't work. My oldest brother also got one of these as a gift and he tested both of the monitor(mine and his) and he said they both had no problems before. Which his monitor works with his PC, which both are all the same thing so I odn't really understand why this isn't working.

So my computer started to work when I had the monitor on yesterday but then once I turned it off it wouldn't go back on and it won't seem to get back to working.

Restart the PC and get into SAFE MODE. Hit and release F8 many times right after turning on PC. If it works, then go into your video setting and either change the settings or remove the video driver. Restart the PC and you'll get 800X600 screen, then reinstall the video drivers. IF it won't go above 800X600, screen internals are bad, LCD toasted. I've seen that happen with LCDs and older monitors.

Gateway monitor FPD1975W won't display

Same problem - unplug both computer and monitor - hold power button for monitor for 15-30 seconds...then power it back on and then power on the computer. Seems from other sites there is a power issue with the monitor - this worked for me.

Monitor is busted!

If your pc works on another monitor. I would recommend you buy a new LCD monitor or a used CRT.

The best solution if your computer works is to buy a LCD screen, I've thrown out my 17" crt screens they aren't worth anything these days. You can get a used crt from ebay

Over here where I live I bought a used crt for 25usd thats was over a year ago.

Theres really no point in trying to repair the screen if its broken, buy a working one or a brand new lcd.

Good luck.

Elbtax,
Click start > right click on "My Computer" > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager button > Display adapters > Right click on your device and select uninstall and re boot your computer. Windows should pick up your adapter and re configure it automatically. This method should Fixya!
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Monitor won't turn on, just keeps flashing the gateway logo on and off

Unless there is inadequate ventilation, your monitor could remain on all the time with little ill effect. Actually turning on and off your monitor actually puts more strain on it then leaving it on all the time.

If the gateway screen is displayed for a moment and then just turns off, I believe the inverter board inside the monitor has broken.
What's actually happening is that somewhere in the board more voltage then needed is "leaking" in and the safeguards on the board turn it off to prevent damage.

I would go and get an estimate from a shop. If the price is within 30-50 dollars of a new monitor, get a new one.
