Thank you for choosing Fixya. Try the procedure below:
1. Press and hold the home button and the sleep/wake button. (the power off option will appear, ignore it)
2. When the apple logo appears let go of the sleep/wake button (keep holding the home button.)
3. After a few seconds you should see the connect to iTunes image (you can now let go of the home button.)
4. Open iTunes .
5. iTunes should automatically recognize your iPod, iPad, or iPhone once
the image comes up, if not unplug your iPod, iPad, or iPhone and plug
it back in.
6. Restore your iPod, iPad, or iPhone by clicking the "Restore" button.

If your iPod touch is password locked, the only way to get past it is to force the unit into restore mode by doing the following: 1. Plug the iPod touch in to your computer. 2. Hold the sleep/wake button and the menu button down at the same time. Keep them both pressed until you see the 'restore' screen (an iPod cable and an iTunes disc symbol) on the iPod touch. Release the buttons. 3. iTunes should now display the iPod touch, along with a message that the iPod touch is in recovery mode. Click the RESTORE button in iTunes to restore the iPod touch. Please note that doing this will erase the contents of the iPod touch -- that's how the system is designed to work: a passcode lock is meant to protect the data on the iPod.
^This works too, but if you have important data on it you can hold down the on/off button and the square button until it goes off , and then press the square button to get it to turn back on. I had to do it too :(
well you can conpleatly restore it by not pluging it in and holding the power buton for 3 seconds then with out leting go of the power buton hold the home buton for 10 seconds then let go of the power buton and just hold the home buton for a further 30 seconds.....
after you have done this plug it in to your computer with iTunes allready running and a icon should say unresponcive ipod or somethin along those lines just click RESTORE
here's how: 1. Turn on your iPod (in my case it would only get as far as displaying the Apple logo 2. Hold the power and home buttons down (the iPod will power off after 10 seconds, but keep holding those buttons down) 3. After the iPod powers off, release the power button (but keep holding the home button down) 4. After a couple more seconds, you should hear that magical “ding dong” that means the iPod is coming back alive, and that Windows has detected it. You may even see a little “New hardware” popup in Windows. It is now safe to release the home button, and your iPod is in DFU mode. 5. Now iTunes will see it as a DFU’ed iPod and should ask you to automatically restore its firmware. 6. iTunes has to download the new firmware, and it takes a while, so go make a sandwich.
try to hold the home and power button for 10 seconds and then release the power button without release the home button wait 9 seconds the a window would pop up saying the u needto restore ur ipod touch do it and the is going to solve ur problem and if it doesnt let me know.
