Hi Fixya people, I bought an used HP scanner, Scanjet 5300C, I did connect it to my Pc under Win XP and it was recognized inmediatly, well when a started to scan an document I realized the image it was a little cloudy, so I disasembled the scanner and I did clean the mirrors, when I reasemble the scanner the carriage return to its zero position, and when it arrives it move an small amount maybe 1 or 2 mlimeters back and front, it stop and the scanner light start to blink 6 times by series, I rechecked everything and I did not let any missconnection or unconnection, but the scanner it doesn´t work, I think maybe I burned sometging (static charge maybe) but I don´t know where to look for, If someone already has experienced this issue, may can help me or let me know where I can find the diagrams for it. Thanks in advance.
After disconnecting and later reconnecting the scanner no longer worked. The lamp started flashing 6 times with pause. The scanner was no longer recognised by the computer. I fixed it by disconnecting the usb and current plugs, and reconnecting the current plug while pushing the first en third buttons from the left on the front of the scanner.

HP only has drivers for:
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows 2000
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
Microsoft Windows 95
You may be in the market for a new scanner if simply plugging it in doesn't get it working.
Install the driver.
use the compatibility wizard, search for the programme, to change the settings for this programme to use xp sp2, Tick the box, tick the box run as Administrator, this will let the PC think your running xp for the driver,
Now try Printing something.
http://www.pixel2life.com/publish/tutorials/399/how_to_get_your_hp_scanjet_5300c_working_in_windows_vista/ Try this method for Vista, haven't had time try it on my new win7 notebook. But still works great on my other notebook running Vista and XP pro. Goodluck!
Did you install the software/driver? Did windows recognize your scanner in your hardware profile? Don't use the software from HP, It sucks. If the HP software is not working correctly, then Use the one provided my your operating system works great. Go your Control Panel, Printer and other Hardwares and click Scanners, make a shortcut to your task or start menu and Scan Away. For Faxes, etc. import in outlook or other email client, etc.
first thing i would do is go to the control panel and see if theres any thing in the camera and scanner profile. Then go to the manufactures site and see if theres an updated driver for the printer. if so download the new driver then see if it recconizes the scanner. if that still does not work then you may have to run it in a different compatability mode. good luck
advises that, on some systems, the scanner hardware may get into an
error state that will keep the scanning software from finding the 3200c
ScanJet. If your scanner still isn't found after installing this driver
and software update, please follow the directions below:
Unplug the power cable from the 3200c ScanJet.
Unplug the parallel cable(s) from the 3200c ScanJet.
Shut down the PC and wait for ten seconds.
Plug in the power cable to the 3200c ScanJet.
Plug in the parallel cable(s) to the 3200c ScanJet.
Power your PC on.
If you still have the problem, uninstall the driver from device manager, and download and run this .exe file version of the driver instead.. and if necessary, repeat the above steps..
Most likely the destination folder for the scanning is a shared folder with limited rights. As the administrator, reset the permissions for that folder or redirect the software to a common folder with read/write/creation etc... access.
Also, make sure you are using the HP provided drivers and not those from Microsoft.
