Optoma EP739 blocked by HDCP on Cable Box HDMI

I have an Optoma EP739 projector and HD cable used to work a couple years ago just fine, now that I have connected cable again the new box says that my device has failed HDCP and then since then I only get a gray screen for all channels even non HD. I connected using Svideo and I can watch cable just not in HD. Has the HDCP key for Optoma been blocked? Is there a way to update the keys.

Hi,

One good thing is that you are running XP. Will work on the premise (that you have posted) worked before and the driver (ForceWare91.31) was the only thing changed.

Let's try the easy ones first. Activate twin/dual view in your Display Properties. Right click on any clear area of your desktop, click on Properties, click on Settings tab, select monitor 1 or 2 depending which is your primary and which is your projector. Check (or uncheck-whichever works) on box "Extend....". Apply, OK.

or

do the same with nView Properties.

The hard ones are registry and/or inf editing, though I am reluctant to even suggest.

Incidentally, there is an application that is supposed to facilitate twin or dual view configuration, UltraMon. This may be better/safer way to address your concern.

If all else fails, you may have to rollback/downgrade your driver.

Cheers.

SOURCE: optoma ep739 won't power up

The lamp cover has a disconnect that won't allow power while the cover is off. Sometimes the piece of metal gets bent out of place.
Try removing the cover for the lamp, and bending the little piece of metal forward.

It worked for me!!!!

This is most likely a problem with what's called "HDMI handshake." It's a silly protection scheme called HDCP that is meant to keep people from copying content. The best thing to do is unplug everything, then turn on things in this order: receiver>projector>sources (directv, Bluray). If that does not work, check for firmware updates for the receiver or projector.

Can the Optoma EP739 be ceiling mounted and projected upside down? what are the steps to do so? also, what would be the best mount for said projector?

Mine has been in place for about three years. Because the ceiling was open I was able to create a connection for a tripod head on the ceiling and then using a STRONG tripod head and some small bolts (longer than the originals) I mounted an external base and with the tripod head fitting dttached to the projector it just became a matter of running the various connector cables from the sources I use that require projection to my wall.

Hdcp error mesage when connected to my freeview hd box.

What is a HDCP error? Here is a real life situation that happened that could happen to you. You just bought a Blu-ray Disc Player and connected it to your older HDTV with a HDMI cable. When you tried playing a Blu-ray disc a HDCP error was shown on the screen. The movie wouldn't play.
This is a known issue with HDCP, and it's one of the biggest hassles consumers will have to deal with when utilizing a HDMI cable on their HDTV. You will get a HDCP error if you try watching HDCP encoded content when using a HDMI cable.
The problem is that if HDCP exists anywhere in the video stream then all devices and cables accessing this content must be HDCP compliant. If one device or cable isn't HDCP compliant then you get a HDCP error.
The only solution is to either replace the HDMI cable with a non-digital cable or replace the HDCP-less device. This could mean buying a new HDTV. In fact, I worked with a reader last year troubleshooting a HDCP error on his TV. What happened is that he bought a Blu-ray Disc Player and connected everything properly only to get a HDCP error. After a few emails back and forth we discovered that his HDTV wasn't HDCP compatible, which is why he got the HDCP error.
The reader ended up buying a newer HDTV with HDCP, and his Blu-ray Disc Player worked perfectly with HDMI cables.

I just got a new Optoma HD20 and only after 1day of use it is not showing HDMI signal, although it is showing VGA signal. Why is this?

Hi miracles4all: I solved HDMI signal issue in my Optoma HD20. In my case it was the lack of contact between the HDMI cable plug male ending and the Optoma HD20 HDMI female port. My 35ft cable plug male HDMI ending was not completely "seating" in the Optoma HD20 HDMI female port. I solved the problem by purchasing a HDMI female to female coupler and adding a 3ft HDMI cable that had a slim male ending. This 3ft HDMI extension cable made better contact to the Optoma HDMI port and the projector was immediately able to detect HDMI signal. Hope this helps you... kaufmanekpr

WOW. I just experienced the same thing. None of my HDMI ports are working, though component is fine. I've had my unit since November 2007 and had no problems until this. I think the HDMI board has gone bad and will require replacing.

IN72 Projector problem

My understanding when we purchased our IN72 2 years ago is that there wasn't any additional benefit for Cable box using HDMI since the IN72 does not transmit audio so using component cables for cable was optimized enough. We have our DVD player connected via the HDMI only. Possibly the transmission from cable box through an HDMI is not compatible audio is confusing it? hard to say. Cable HD channels look awesome thru the compenent cables, the max for IN72 is 480i anyway.

We've got 35 ft cables for all 3 hdmi, compenent, and that vcr one too and it's worked great.

Optoma EP739 Projector Overheating

Set the projector to "high altitude mode." It will be noisier, but won't overheat. I wonder whether using one of those $10-$20 laptop coolers underneath it might be a quieter solution.
