I was very pleased with your intervention on my problem. I just have to sit and wait until Sony releases a driver for this camera (DCR-TRV18). Thanks again.

Hi there
There is no support for this camera on ANY version of Vista at the moment, however Sony are asking you to be patient because they are working on one.
If you have access to a XP computer i suggest you use that until Sony releases one. Keep checking this page>>>>

I need the memory stick number to my dcr-trv18 what memory stick do i need

Your camcorder uses the original Sony memory sticks in the following capacities:
4Mb, 8Mb, 16Mb, 32Mb, 64Mb and 128Mb. All but the 128Mb have been discontinued. You can look online for the 128Mb memory stick from many vendors. You may find the other ones from E-bay.

CANNOT CONNECT DCR-TRV285E PAL ON MY COMPUTER WITH OS- VISTA

Dear Sony camera user,
Yes the Sony camera needs a driver in Windows PC's and no drivers are yet available for Win Vista or Win 7 PC user's.
However if your camera has, and I am sure it has a Firewire cable (Plug marked with windmill marker) then you do not need a driver, just the cable to fit your camera to the Firewire port (Marked with windmill) on your PC.
Your cable will be available from Sony, and Maplin Electrical, PC World and good camera shops at around £14.
Good luck,
from
David

Need driver to transfer video to using Vista

to transfer video from your camcorder to your pc you will need a firewire cable (ieee 1394). only with this cable you will be able to transer video.
you will also need a firewire port on your pc.
if you don't have one then you can buy a firewire pci card.

see this for info and pictures

Note: If the your camera or camcorder is not recognized by the computer when connected, you may need an updated driver.
  • Detailed Windows Vista compatibility information is available for Sony Cameras and Camcorders.
  • The Windows Vista Starter edition and Windows XP 64-bit operating systems are not supported.
