Question about Dell Latitude D630 PC Notebook

1 Answer

Computer starts up to a blank screen

When i turn on my computer it beeps twice (as it often does about power somthing or other asking my to press F1) however the sceen is blank so i assume its the same message and hit F1....wait a while and blindly log into windows. i hear the windows music but and pop up messages but still only see a blank (illuminated) screen.

This all occurred after i was haveing numerous video driver problems, finally got it to update and was working perfectly for about a day before the screen started freaking out (flickering) and froze. When i restarted the screen was blank but i could still operate the computer as stated above.

i just installed a new video driver update last night....worked great until this afternoon

  • Anonymous Mar 04, 2009

I have two Latitude D630, both about 1.5 years old; one is windows vista business, the other win xp pro. Both machines recently experienced the same problems:

    1. screen goes blank, freezes or the display gets distorted (colorful screen)

    2. upon boot-up, windows cannot load. screen is blank and the system just hangs.

updated the drivers on vista and deleted some recent windows updates, that seemed to work for now (its been a few weeks with no issues).

still trying to find the latest video drivers for the nvidia. the driver on the dell site didnt help.

besides complete os re-install, any other suggestions?

Dell inspiron 1545 14 beeps (more details inside).

This indicates a motherboard issue, sub out the ram memory one at a time, test each as you go, if no change! The motherboard will need to be replaced, or the laptop.

I cant start my laptop . when i press start i gives beep sound twice and blanck screen

Sub out the ram one at a time and power up each time, if you are lucky! the machine will start up, if not! remove the main battery and try again. If no change! the motherboard is the problem and you will need somebody to take it to the next level and find out the cause.

Got a backup?

If not, download a Linux Live CD. Boot your machine with it, save all your data to an external drive and then do a complete disk format and re-install. That will be quicker in the long run.

Not sure about that PC, but on Dell, for example, you hit CTRL-F10 (I think) at power-on and it gives you the option of reinstalling the OS from the recovery partition (wiping any unbacked-up data in the process).,,Gateway is probably similar.

The Boot/BCD issue means your 'Boot Configuration Data' is hosed.

My computer is having start up issues. When I turn it on it'll act like it's loading normally and then it'll beep twice. It'll go to a screen that will have several ERRORs on it and ask me to press either...

Hi,

It may happen when CMOS Checksom error i.e error may happen due to keyboard failure. Please follow the steps to short the BIOS

> Open the Laptop back panel. Locate the CMOS battery, remove it & then with the
help of a screw driver keep on pressing the terminal inside it and turn ON the computer for 10 secs and Turn Off (make sure you keep on pressing the terminal with a
screwdriver while turning ON). It will short the BIOS setting. Now, fix the CMOS battrey & restart the computer. This will take care of the issue.

Now, restart the computer in normal mode. If still facing issues then I would suggest a full system recovery.

You can restore the computer back to factory default,to do so, follow the below steps: Turn OFF the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction. NOTE: This will erase all the datas on the computer.

Thanks and regards,
Jitha
