I've found a UMAX 1600U Scanner in the cupboard and want to connect it to my Sony Vaio with OS Vista installed. Is there a way of connecting these two together? Any suggestions or info appreciated from you lovely people out there?

Re: Vista vs. UMAX 1600U Compatibility problem?
According to Umax this model is not compatible with Windows Vista. There is no vista driver/software & they have no plans of developing one. Sorry. Hope this helps & please take a moment to rate my solution. Thanks.

Umax AstraNet iA101 on WIN7 - if You have install file vs375u copy it to C:/ extract/ in folder find subfolder named DISK1/ inside is file VSSETUP right click on vista icon and set compatibility mode to sp-sp3 / install (as administrator) / right click on vista aces icon and set compatibility mode to xp-sp3. That's work for me
There's only one way I've found to run this scanner on a computer with Vista, but its cheating since you really don't use Vista. Look at Knoppix 6.2 (www.knoppix.org). It has a scanner app (Xsane) that will run the Astra 3400 (using Plustek USB driver). The catch is you have to boot from the Knoppix CD (or DVD) which lets you run LINUX in your RAM, but won't mess with Vista on the hard drive. Save your scanned work to USB flash memory when done, then boot back to Vista and do whatever with those saved files. You have the option of various file types and even multipage PDFs.
go to UMAX 4100 scanner installation CD that comes with the scanner and find the setup.exe file and on it clik left mouse and then right mouse and choose properties and then choose "Install in WinXP-Sp2 compaitibility mode" ...Thats its . Then it will install in Visa and will work perfectly. Only when you startup the Vista it gives you some error message "incompitable Os" etc ..just cancells the message ..and your Umax 4100 Scanner will work perfectly.
