Question about EliteGroup ECS G31T-M Motherboard - Quad Core Support, Intel G31, Audio, Video, PCI Express, 10/100 Ethernet LA

1 Answer

Cpu spiking every 3 or 4 seconds

I just built a system on a MSI G31M3-F Platform with a Core 2 Duo E7300 ; Nvidia GeForce 9500 gt; and 2gb ddr2 @ 800mhz. and a Realtek wireless g 56mbps pci adapter. Running Windows XP Pro SP3
Every few seconds in rythym it pauses everything for a second. mouse movement and typing are most noticeable representations. I can't figure out whats causing it. I went to Performance and watched the green line jump an inch every time it was pausing. but the line going across paused too. You dont see the green line till everything starts again. I have reinstalled drivers and jacked with the bios untill I'm blue in the face. If anyone can guess the answer to this problem please send ideas. Thanks... Slim

Hi there
It could be a slight memory issue, take out the memory modules, clean the contacts and the slots free of dust and hair, a clean, dry soft paintbrush will clean the slots and contacts, then re-seat the memory and try again. If the problem still persists please post back.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

  • Another option is through the Internet. Launch the utility:

Start > Programs > Asus > ASUSUpdate

Follow the directions.

There is also ASUS EZ Flash.

Make sure that you do have a copy of your current or original BIOS, if you have the CD that came with the MoBo then you are golden.

MSI P6NGM won't BOOT

You should only hear 1 beep. That 1 beep is power on self test, known as P.O.S.T.
That loud flat line sound (And I'm pretty sure about this), was you're CPU. Just because you ran & passed the stressed test is nothing compared to running the system under load? That's why when you put in you other memory nothing changed. If you hadn’t mentioned you clocked up the FSB I would have come to the same conclusion hearing the loud flat line statement.
Can you test the CPU in another board? That is about the only way to be sure it's not the CPU. Memory does not make that kind of sound. Memory makes short & long beeps.
You can try clearing the cmos/bios by going to pg. 2-18 in you're user manual. This will reset the bios back to default settings & cross you're fingers!

If I can be of more service, just post back & let me know how thing go.

Good Luck!

Mike
