Question about Mozilla Firefox

1 Answer

I want to switch back to Firefox 3.0.4

Recently, my Firefox updated to 3.0.6. Since then my Screengrab add-on hasn't worked reliably, the find function doesn't always work either, and I am completely unable to attach documents to emails I send using Gmail (I am still able to do this if I use IE).

So I want to go back to 3.0.4. How do I go about doing this, and what do I have to do to ensure that my bookmarks, add-ons, etc transfer over?

Hi Bruxy! Thank you so much for that information! It was exactly what I needed. Of course, my Screengrab! and my ability to upload attachments are currently working fine, wouldn't you know. I'm sure they'll be acting up again though, and I appreciate the great advice.

Thank you to Misterixas too! I was unaware of FileHippo and will keep it in mind for any future needs.

Hi Lauren!

before downgrading, which is not really recommended being that the latest version is usually more secure than the older ones, check to be sure that you have updated all your addons after upgrading. best to do this regularly if you don't already.

you may want to have a look here: Firefox 3.0.6 Release notes

there you will find info on Uninstalling Firefox, which explains how to do it as well as letting you know that your profile settings won't be deleted, it also tells you where to find these files on your system.

there is also a category for 'known issues' but i didn't notice anything in there about the e-mail attatchment problem you're having... this may be due to one of your addons or a conflict between two or more of them... a good way to figure out if this is the case is to launch firefox insafemode (you don't have to change any of your settings permanently)and go to your g-mail account to see how things are working there... also try the find function while you're in safemode. there's more info on this in the 'troubleshooting' section.

if you're still having trouble with one or both of these, you may want to make a bug report to firefox. if it's all fine, then it's most likely an add-on problem, in which case...'ll want to disable all your addons and then add them back in one at a time... since Screengrab is giving you trouble, i'd put that back first and test your g-mail and your find feature. and as you enable other addons, see how Screegrab and the rest behaves until you find the one that id causing you trouble.

additionally, in the case of Screengrabber, you may want to go to the firefox addonpage and see if the developer or any users have made notes about bugsor incompatibilities with the FF upgrade or other addons, or to the devloper's support page/forum.

if you still want to go back to an older version of firefox... you can find all the previous releases here:

you'll have to uninstall the curent version and then install the older one into the same folder. you should have all your settings back again once you do, but do make a backup of everything before uninstalling just to be sure.

if you need to reinstall any or all of your extensions, you should be able to do this by pointing the installer to the local folder, then be sure that you have them all up-to-date.

let me know if any or all of this works for you, or if you need more help.

ps... if you go to the ftp page with the older versions, please scroll down until you find the readme file... it's very short, but you should read it before proceeding with a downgrade. : )

glad i could help, Lauren, and thanks for the cool rating! :-)

i do have to wonder why it's all ok again... maybe this happens when you have some other (or several other) program running that is sharing some kind of system file, or are on another website in the same browser window that is running some confilicting scripts or using another one of your addons.... just a thought... you can try using the dom inspector or the page error module in firefox to see what the problem is if it happens again.

if you have any more trouble or questions on this just give me a shout!

Videos don't have sound when viewed in Mozilla Firefox 3

Try starting FF in Safe Mode (available from the same folder where the executable resides) and see if some Add-In is the cause. If it plays normally after that try disabling the add-ins one at a time until you find the culprit.

Firefox or IE I've been using IE for ever, lately I've been hearing a lot about Firefox, and thought I might try it, what are the main advantages of Firefox, over IE? What do you prefer Firefox or IE?...

The user interface on the two browser is very similar.

Firefox is considered 'more powerful' because is more customisable, and you can download many extensions, that are plugins with many functions.

Firefox suffer less from virus problem, as there are more viruses designed to attack IE, however majority of viruses do not make any difference between IE, Firefox, Opera etc.

Internet explorer is more unstable and crashes more easily.

Sometimes new plugins (extension) can make Firefox slower.

Sometimes new download updates can make IE slower.

The two browsers are both good, and both work fine on most situation. I personally use Firefox, as it gives me less troubles with Windows.

My suggestion is : download and install Firefox, if you do not like it, then switch back to IE.

You can use both browsers at the same time.
