Question about Whirlpool GD2SHGX Refrigerator
I have a Whirlpool frost free fridge model 6ET20DKXAW00 that is about 15 years old with freezer on top. Trouble is I can't afford a new fridge at the moment and I'm a techo-idiot in this field..
Ice keeps forming at the fridge section vent at the top rear centre and water condenses (often quite a bit) on the ceiling dripping onto the shelves etc.
The temperature dials sometimes stick a little (mostly the freezer dial) but work with a tiny bit of pressure - don't know if there is any ice forming in there or not.
The freezer section is fine but ice cream does get too hard presumably because of the problem in the fridge section. No ice forms in the freezer.
The seals probably need replacing.
I have left it to defrost for over 24 hours with the doors open and dried it thoroughly. I tilted it slightly back and forward to try to get all the water out I could. The problem just recurred. I have also left it to defrost for shorter periods.
I've read a few solutions - door seals, regassing, taking the freezer apart to defrost the hidden coils with a hair dryer, etc.
Any ideas out there before I start paying money to have the mechanics investigate, or try to find the moeny to buy a new fridge?
Thanks for any help anyone can give. I have a Whirlpool fridge that is freezing in the fridge, we have tried regassing it but now the whole freezer has defrosted and the fridge is not getting cold anymore - Can anyone help me with the level of gas you need to refill the compressor with? PLZZZZZ
Seems that you now have to little gas in the fridge.Somewhere on your apparatus there should be a factory tag where it should be info on amount of gas, prod date etc and also which type of gas to fill.
Other thing as fan not running properly, door gaskets leaking can lead to Ice build up.
High humidity and water all over inside fridge.Gas filling procedure.Make vacum(vacumpump)Fill in correct weight (grams or oz)of gas.Anyhow when you must fill gas there is usually a leak in your system and to find that i use liquid nitrogen. For this serviceman is the best option.

hi , roger here i am a maintenance tech for an apartment complex that just happens to have whirlpool appliances. the way i see it is the most likely problem you have is a clogged drain. if you push the refrigerator out where you can access the back of it you will see a plastic hose that runs from about the middle of the fridge down to the bottom and then dumps into a pan that sits on the top of the compresser. the easiest thing to do is to remove the hose from the pan and blow hard through it or hook an air nozzle from a compresser and blow through it . it should take care of it. also try to avoid turning the fridge up on its max settings. hope this helps.

ok your defrost drain is frozen take the back panel off in the freezer section under the coils you will see a silver pan if its frozen it will be a block of ice you have to remove the ice then make sure the drain and tube are clear all the way to the pan at the bottom you should see the plastic tube on the back of the unit in the center over time algae can grow in the tube blocking it drying the unit will help but soon as it defrosts the tube fill up again and the problem reoccurs you kinda got to snake it out so to speak.the best way to deal with it is to go to lowes or home depot and get a eurka 302 enviro hand held steamer an investment but a great product to have around the house cost about 40 bucks but 1000s of uses

you have a clogged evap. drain and if you want the probelm to go away you need to that the back panel off of the freezer, then use a hair dryer to melt all the visible ice then use boiling hot water to flush the evap. drain tube which is also clogged with ice . once water flows all the way throuh the pipes as if you have flush the tiolet you have then cleared your issue
