Cannot remove memory card write protection Nikon Coolpixs9

All of the sudden, my camera tells me "memory card write protected" when I try to take a photo or delete a photo. I Tried using a new memory card, however, got the same message. The menu will not allow me to adjust the memory proctection settings. The camera is practically useless at this point.

Is it a SD card? Check the little security slider switch on the edge of the card hasn't been slid the wrong way - try it the other way and see if it works.

If not SD, we need the model of Nikon you have, the make and capacity of the memory card and any other info you think may help.

Take your memory card out and look to see if you may have moved the sliding switch on the memory card, if you have move it back.

Haha, my dear friend, you can't see there is a "read only switch" in the memory card body?
so you can change the protection settings in the card not in your camera.

What is mesage "memory card write protected " in nikon coolpix4500

It means that the camera 'thinks' that the Memory Card in the camera has been switched to 'Write Protect ON". If there is no Camera Menu Item to override this function then remove the memory card from the camera and check along the edge. You should find a small black or grey slider button that will move. Hopefully it will be labeled for Write protect ON and OFF.
Reinsert the adjusted card and see what happens. If the error persists then try another card. This link might help:

Good luck.

Why has my memory card in my Nikon L310 just suddenly told me that it is "write protected"?

SD/SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

My camera is write protected

Dear Hannahboggs9,
I am not quite sure of what is the make of your Memory card however most of the memory cards have a small switch on side that could be toggled to make it write protected. I am sending you a link with picture to make it more clear.

See the yellow slide lock on left edge of the above card...

Now if there is no lock on your card or if the above mentioned is not the problem then you might want to try formatting the card using your computer with "FAT" OR "FAT16" file system selected from the drop down (DO NOT SELECT FAT32).

If that too doesn't work then you might want to try with a different memory card.
This issue doesn't seem to be with camera.

In case any further assistance is required please write back and I would be glad to assist.

Regards,
Srinivas

''Memory card is write protected''

Remove the SD memory card from the camera and move the small switch on the side to the unlock position. That should solve the problem.

Your memory card has a little switch on the side of it called the Write Protect Switch. If it is in the Locked position, the camera will tell you the memory card is protected. Just take the memory card out and slide the switch to the unlocked position. You should be able to take pictuers now.
