Only half of touch panel buttons work on my LG microwave. I noticed that the number 9 did not work yesterday and today the start button and several other buttons quit working. $44.13 plus shipping for a new touch panel seems high - especially if it is a factory OEM unit with the same potential problem..

I installed the microwave and the next day i was boiling some water and the keypad was covered in steam. I tried to go use the microwave and now it won't work.

The keypad may be damaged or worn out, or control unit may be damaged.

Is it possible that some spray cleaner accidentally got into the controls?

Direct spraying of cleaners on the keypad can damage the controls.

I always recommend that you spray non-ammonia cleaner on a soft cloth (not a paper towel which can scratch) and gently wipe the keypad.

If it is wet and does not dry out over time, it may need to be manually dried or blown out.

We have the service / repair manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

It will give you safety info, step by step help in disassembly, troubleshooting tips, and part numbers.

You will need the
free Acrobat Reader to view or print it in case you don't have it already.

If you have a failed membrane keypad (which I suspect) the quickest and easiest way to repair it is to replace the plastic control panel frame which keypad as an assembly.

It is part # 478181A001A "Controller Assembly, sub" which runs $44.13 plus shipping Encompass or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame.
