Roper Dryer REX5634KQ belt replacement

The manual will be no help in replacing your belt. It only tells you how to use the unit, not how to repair it. I have a copy of it in memory, if you'd like it email me your email address and I'll send it. I also have a diagram on file that shows the exact route for the belt on your dryer. I could send that as well. My email is

Dryer works and come on but won't turn to dry. its a roper by whirlpool

Check your belt.

This video on replacement should help you in opening the top panel so that you have a good view of the drum and belt (turn off the breaker and unplug your dryer before proceeding with any work).

Replacement procedure is the same as shown in the video. If the belt is broken check the tension pulley on the bottom before purchasing or ordering a new belt, some Roper model came with a "tension slide" and not a tension wheel (mine was one of them).

The slide will wear and a groove will form that will accelerate the wear on the belt, this part can be replaced with a normal tension wheel (recommended), so you're not repeating this repair in another few months or so.

Dryer will heat up but drum will not turn. Unable

Good day,
Sounds like a broken belt, Excellent tutorial on changing the belt on the link below.
Caution: Some models used a very poorly designed belt tensioner. If the tensioner is that style, replace it while purchasing the belt.
Appliance parts house counter men are well aware of the problem. The Roper line is made by whirlpool.

The Roper is manufactured by Whirlpool. Your REX4634JQO should be identical to the Whirlpool LER 4634 J. Go to Roper's website at to see about getting a manual. If you want to get at the problem without waiting for a manual, take a putty knife and slide it under the top of the dryer at the two retaining clips to pop it open and tilt the top back exposing the top of the drum. Then open the bottom panel and take the belt off the motor pulley. You should then be able to lift the drum out of the enclosure. Clean off the ball and socket at the back of the drum and apply fresh grease. Clean the lint off the idle rollers at the front of the enclosure and make sure they turn freely. Clean the surface where the belt rides and clean off the belt, then reassemble. If the belt is glazed, frayed, cracked, or shows any other wear or damage, do yourself a big favor and replace it now. I think the last one I bought was about $12 and will save you the trouble of doing all this again when the belt does finally fail.

Go to and click on the "Repair Help" link at the top of the page. On the next page, click on the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under the "Special Features" section. There are numerous dryer belt diagram illustrations listed that you can print out. Admiral is listed. I hope this helps you.

Gas dryer not turning

I can explain how to do this but I would suggest going to the library and looking for a generic repair book with diagrams. It's hard to explain but very easy to do. Most Whirlpool, Kenmore and Roper dryers are basically the same as far as belts and moving parts. The only difference is the features. What you neet to know applies to both gas and electric dryers. You should also replace the idler pulley and both rear drum rollers while you are in there. One of these probably caused the belt to break. Your dryer will run so quietly after this you will hardly know it's running You will also need the diagram on the belt package to replace the belt as it is very tricky the first time especially if you haven't seen it in place. Replacing all the parts I mentioned will cost around $20 - $35 and take about an hour. While you have it apart clean out all lint and check vent hoses and outside damper. DO NOT USE FLEXIBLE PLASTIC DUCT PIPE!!!!!!! It is now against most building codes for darn good reason. It's a fire hazard!

Where is belt on dryer and how to fix drum won't turn

The belt on a roper dryer is inside the body, accessed and changed as follows
  • unplug dryer(220v is Not Fun)
  • remove lint screen
  • undo screws inside lint screen holder, screwing it to case lid (so lid can tilt up)
  • with putty knife or other blunt blade, release spring catches under front corners of case lid
  • raise case lid
  • remove screws 1/3 way down front corners of body holding front panel on
  • remove door switch cable from door switch
  • lift door off set aside
  1. drum motor felts and bearings are now accessible.
  2. lift drum and withdraw fully forwards
  3. with drum removed check support rollers for free movement, check drum slides and/or drum felts for wear, easier to replace now, if worn, than have bearings or slides cause belt to break again.
  4. loop belt loosely around drum at wear marks from prior installation
  5. reinsert drum onto rollers bearings slides felts as installed.
  6. loop belt around motor pulley
  7. pull tensioner pulley against spring to end of its travel
  8. loop belt around tensioner pulley
  9. relax tensioner pulley to tighten belt
  10. rotate drum by hand to ensure belt is aligned
reassemble case in reverse order.

There are not many belt, felt, support roller sizes the local parts guy will have a belt, felt, roller to fit,

Tensioner pulley may not be in place, breaking belts often pull them out of their mounts, the pulley and spring will be lying on the case floor, there is only one way they fit in to their mounts so they are easy to reinstall

tensioner sketch is approximate, pulley may be on top run pulling down, or bottom run pushing up

the repair is easy, it takes longer to type or read this than it does to repair the dryer

Belts ~$14 Support Rollers ~$14/pair, felts/slides upto ~$25
New dryer +$200 - its a good repair

Roper dryer not working

If the drum will not rotate, look for a broken belt or even possibly a faulty motor. If it is a belt, it should be relatively cheap to repair and possibly easy for you to aquire the specs on the breakdown of the dryer to access the belt for installation. If the belt isn't broken, then the motor is possibly shot and I am unsure of how much ROPER parts are. Be model number and serial number SPECIFIC when ordering parts, and don't go with the "SUGGESTED MATCH" just to save money if you can avoid it, they aren't always compatible.
