Mid game the screen gets pixilated and rainbow colored

Works fine till I try and play a game I get 5-10 minutes normal performance then the screen gets really pixilated and rainbow colored strips all over and then freezes up and shuts down works fine in the Xbox guide so its not just dead it just wont play games or DVDs and the last time it happened(its back in the box now) it had a rumble noise in the disk tray and when it finely opened it carved a deep ring into the disc brand new 60 game dead in the first hour I had it. Oh and it defiantly not the TV it’s done it on all three of my TVs.

It is your DVD drive. If you are technical enough and it's out of warranty, you can fix it. Let me know

From your description although could be the onset of RROD your DVD drive seems to be the main culprit as its damaged a game disk, if under warranty then return it id you best action.

if not, you can't simply buy a new drive and change the drive out as it needs to be 'blown' with the 'drive key' or it won't work.

you can have this done for you at a price, you can also buy the bits and do it yourself but the cost is also high for a 'one off'. sowhat i did was buy a brand new drive of the same type and swapped over the pcb's, so original number pcb was now attached to the mechanics of the new drive which cost me £24 from Ebay all legit.

so it will depend how good you are with hand tools but its not that hard to do with some care and patience :)

hope it helps

My system starts up fine, all icons act properly.. but after playing for fifteen to twenty minutes, it locks up. Then when I reboot it starts like a pixel seizure eventually whole screen turns into lines...

if there's pixilation problems only after 10-20 minutes, i'd say the gpu is overheating.

Now the real problem is if the gpu has been damaged due to the overheating and whats causing it to overheat in the first place.

The heatsinks on the ps3's are crazy so i'd push more towards the gpu failing, but it could be just a simple overheat problem.

They sell external fans for the ps3 that connect to an external power source. Try purchasing one of those, it will run you 30 bucks.

If it continues after that i'd push more towards the gpu's been damaged and your going to need service on it.

Hope this helps.

When I play a new DVD on my PlayStation 2, it pixilates and skips in spots (if I rewind a bit, the skipping doesn't necessarily occur again in the same spot). But when I play that same DVD in another...

this is usually caused by minor scratches on the disk, the playstations dvd reader is not as sofisticated as a normal DVD player, so those minor scratches may causes skipping.

Rainbow color effect appears when Samsung LCD plays Wii or DVD

Hello, I have a question which video inputs are you using for your DVD and Wii connections? The reason I ask is because this sounds like video distortion cuased by noise. If possible can you send a picture of the screen when it has this problem and send which video ports are being used? If it is noise in the video you may have a saw filter problem, or a decoupling issue. In any event I'll know more once you send those pictures and which inputs you are using for your DVD and Wii. Thank you, Shuttle83

Rainbow Colors in some games

You can try running the game, hitting alt+tab to get back to your desktop. Right click on your desktop and hit properties. In the display properties window hit the settings tab and move color quality to 32 bit. If this doesnt fix it then your Graphics card isnt powerfull enough. PS In windows XP you need to make sure that you have another program running besides your game so that you can alt tab.

Pretty colors

Sounds like the other DVD player went bonkers. Try unplugging power on the DVD player you were playing the game on for 5 minutes, then plug it back in.

Problem with Nvidia GeForce XF 5600 AGP graphics card...

It does sound like an overheating problem, although i have also found that this card doesn't work particularly well on all AMD motherboards, although it's an asus card and asus mobo you are using, it is the nvidia chip. You may find an ATI chip card works better on your board. Also check the voltage on your AGP slot as newer cards work on less voltage than the older ones.
