Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

2 Red Lights Xbox 360

I recently repaired my 360 from the classical red ring of death. I did this using the washer method. However, after installing the washers and putting my 360 back together, I discovered that it was no longer the red rings of death, it has become 2 red rings. I have read that it is an overheating problem but that is not the case this time around. The 360 is cold, there is no heat to it whatsoever, but its still giving me the 2 red rings. If someone could help I would be very grateful. Thank you.

I have 1 layer of washers. Are you saying that you added one on top of another or that you put more than 1 on the gpu (next to each other)?

I have now added new thermal paste and I am still getting the 2 red lights. I have 1 layer of 5mm washers between both heatsinks that sit on the GPU and CPU. Any other suggestions? I would like to get my 360 running again but I am beginning to doubt that possibility.

Just thought I might add that my warranty is out and I don't have the money to throw to Microsoft for them to fix it.

After doing a bit more research, I thought I might add that my system begins start up as usual and the fans turn on extremely high for about a half of a second, then turning off. During this time I have noticed that the psu has a steady green light, after the fans turn off the light then returns to its original orange state, not drawing any power. Therefore, nothing inside the system is getting any heat whatsoever.

hi, the kits (i have bought) and the guides i have read recommend 2 washers between the motherboard and the heat sink, the repairs that have worked all had 2 washers thus.

so are you suggesting to use only one washer on both heat sinks?

    many thanks

You need to change the thermal compound. But if you have make sure you have 1 WASHER ABOVE THE MOTHERBOARD! 2 washers above are too many. try that and let me know how you got on

I had this exact issue 2 washers make the heatsink sit off the GPU Die. 1 allows it to touch the GPU DIE
