Without a make and model I can not say. But, let me state that if the set is older than 2005, you will likely need the converter box. Please update this with the make and model and I will confirm.

Thanks,
Dan

How do I get my to work with an antenna

If its a standard analog tv made before the digital changeover it will no longer work directly connected to an antenna as there are no more analog tv transmissions,to use it you will have to get a digital to analog converter box to connect between the tv & antenna it will convert the incoming digital signal to analog so the tv can work again, the same goes fore vcr's they will no longer record directly from an antenna. Some cable systems still supply the cable signal in analog older tv's will still work without boxes on these systems.

Can I receive a digital signal and if so, how?

I'm pretty sure this TV already has an NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuner in there, and should need no converter box whatsover... I say this because I own one...

I have a Hitachi 32CX38B, does it have a digital tuner?

To answer your direct question, yes it has a digital tuner. To answer your real question, NO it WILL NOT receive the new ATSC (digital) broadcast stations. The tuner itself is a digital one but works only for analog signals. The changeover in February will change the broadcast signals to a new digital format that will require a converter for your set to continue to function. Please note that the converter is only required if you receive your signal from rabbit ears or a rooftop antenna. If connected to cable or satelite, no change will be seen and no converter is needed.

Hitachi 57G500A DTV & upcoming analog to digital changeover

To simplify:

Over air reception = need converter
Cable or satelite = no converter

Does the GE 35GT740 model have a digital tuner?

As far as I know, this set DOES NOT have the required tuner capability. Please note that the changeover only effects those using rabbit ears or a rooftop antenna. If you have cable or satelite, no change will be seen. The change over is from an analog broadcast signal to a digital one. Your set has a digital tuner that expects an analog input signal.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Do I have a ATSC tuner in my 2002 Quasar 27" TV?

NTSC is the (analog) standard passing into history in Feb. '09 and ATSC is the new digital standard being used afterward for over-the-air (reception by antenna) broadcasts. This changeover affects only the broadcast channels and if you have cable or satellite reception the changeover will happen whenever they find they can't charge their captive audience such a high premium for HD.
I found no evidence that your set is ATSC ready so if you are receiving your signal by antenna, you need to scurry about and buy a converter for your set. Make sure the one you buy is on the list of 'approved' models to which you can apply the $40 coupon(s).

DTV Question

Based on the features described by JVC and the technical details listed on Amazon.com the answer is no, no digital ATSC tuner, just NTSC analog.

So yes, she'll need a converter box for the ATSC over the air signals.
