is this a unformated new hard drive?

if it is, then you need to format it with Windows XP installation CD.

insert the CD and turn of the machine. follow the instructions.

Have you already installed the OS? Go to select the boot option manually by going into the bios or set up screen when on the boot screen

Does the new drive have XP on it already?
If not just boot from the XP disc and you should be able to do it from there.

If it has XP on it, hook it up as a slave to a different machine, format it and start over.

Xp can only "See" a hard drive up to about 128GB, if its bigger than that, XP won't install.

Make sure your drive is properly connected, and jumper in the right place (1 drive, set to master)
If it used to work before your problem, should be ok.

Then boot from your windows disk. If your bios is set to boot from the hard drive, if there's no operating system on your hard drive it can't boot.

If its set to boot from the hard drive first, it may, after a few seconds revert to booting from the disk drive. If not, while booting watch the screen, at the bottom it you should see "Press F2 for setup or F10 for boot options" or something similar. To temporarily change the settings, choose the boot options menu and select "Boot from CD". Restart and you should be on your way.

If that doesn't work, you may need a new hard drive.

Problem is (the dist structure is corrupted and unreadable). please help

Hi, looks like you will need to format your hard drive and reinstall windows. Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} To install new version of XP. Insert XP CD into drive, reboot pc pressing F1 button.. This takes you into BIOS, change your primary boot device to CDrom, save changes and reboot. Select boot from CD once this appears and wait for files to be installed. Select the part of the hard drive you wish to use for your operating system (usually the largest) and select partition this drive. Delete any previous os, and reformat hard drive. (Be aware this removes everything saved on your hard drive, so always back up first) Re boot afterwards and reinstall operating system.
Hope this helps

Windows XP SP2 will not boot after installing new SATA hard drive

Your system thinks the "second" drive has precedence over the first ( your boot drive ) try switching the SATA cables between the two drives. There also might be a BIOS setting under Boot Order, sometimes you have to drill down to get to it for a particular drive.

Error loading operating system

Firstly have you set your jumpers on your hard drive setting before placing into computer. If not check if the cd rom is on the same cable, if on same cable then change the jumper.

Have you gone into bios and loaded the hard drive. If a new hard drive you will need to detect it in bios first. Then Save and exit.
To go into bios, press f1 or f2 or DEL when you first start computer. Each computer is differentand you'll have to see which you require to press.

After bios is setup, put in your copy of windows xp, or your boot disks and follow instructions to set partition and format drive, then install operating system.

If you are only installing a new secondary drive as a backup, you will still need to detect in bios first. Then load you windows and go to my computer and format the drive using windows.

seems that it's a SATA drive and the drivers are not included in XP.
There are some tools available to include these drivers into the XP CD.
Search the net for 'xp-iso-builder' or 'n-Lite'.

This is not necessary if your laptop's got a floppy drive (i don't think so). Then the SATA drivers can easily be loaded by pressing F6 when booting from the XP CD.

Installing Windows on new PC with Sata hard drive with no operating system installed

press any key to boot...

usually that comes up when a cd is inserted and its waiting for you to press a key so that it boots the cd

Formatting shouldn't be necessary if its a new pc unless your trying to get rid of the operating system.

Are you trying to install windows xp / vista ?
