If you are using refilled ink with epson it can cause the print head to go bad. Epson is very picking when it comes to their ink. I would suggest using there ink

Reset ink

This model printer may only let you use genuine printer cartridges. If you try to refill these ink cartridges it will not work because the cartridges have an embedded chip in the cartridge that detects the empty cartridge even though it has been refilled.
This means you need to purchase and install genuine printer cartridges.

Re-Filling Cartridges, Facts and Fiction

There are many rumors regarding re-filling cartridges, and many people have been put off by the idea due to bad quality, a messy experience or a friend told them not to do it!!
The truth is:

Basically Any HP, Canon, Lexmark or Dell two cartridge printers can be Re-filled with the same results as OEM Cartridges.

Most of the time it is VERY EASY to refill a cartridge, But also depends on a few factors.
Individual Colour Cartridges and Most new Epson Cartridges can be purchased in the AfterMarket world very easily, and the quality of them is very acceptable.
These cartridges are not worth the time to refill versus for the cost of compatibles, although I would recommend Re-Fillable cartridges for high volume users, these have refill plugs and self resetting ink levels. By using these brings the cost per cartridge down to approx $2 per colour
This still leaves all the people who have 2 Cartridges in there printers, and find that even a compatible cartridge is hard to find and still not "cheap",
Provided you have Good quality ink and the correct tools refilling these cartridges CAN BE REFILLED, But there are some tricks to remember.
1. Do not let the cartridge run completely empty, There is a sponge and lower chamber in these type, if the sponge dries and Air gets into the lower chamber, It wont work after a refill. A simple way is to top the cartridges up every weekend, just to be sure.
2. Do not use the cheapest ink you can find. Ink from USA, JAPAN and Australia is the best, Most Other ink is a powder base and has a very poor record. Use inks made from liquid, oil based ingredients. This is the closest ink to OEM standards. Powder Based inks will give a questionable output and probably clog up very quickly.
3. It is Ink, So common sense should dictate to do this over the kitchen sink. I have been Re-Filling cartridges for 6 years and still get ink on my hands!!!
4. Do Not overfill these cartridges or Ink will simply run out of the print head, if the cartridge total capacity is 20ml, use 18ml of ink just to be safe.
5. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS, Read them before you start, then only if your confident go ahead. If you miss a step the ink can flow when you dont want it! Some cartridges require a air plug or head to be covered before you start, just make sure you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.
6. If you change cartridges once every 6 months, is it really worth purchasing a kit that does 10 refills???

I have a new black ink cartridge but my printer wont print because the color ink is empty is there a way to get it to print without refilling the colored ink since i only need black???

When printing in BLACK, a small amount of the COLOUR ink also is used.
This "trick" prevents the COLOUR ink-jets from clogging, due to not being used.

So, you need to have a "good" COLOUR ink-cartridge.

I have an HP F4580 printer, and have just refilled both ink cartridges. However the printer won't allow me to print as it thinks the ink has gone. How can I reset my printer to display ink cartridge...

Often they have a chip mounted on the cartridge which monitors usage and when it determines that there is no ink remaining, it will disable the printer. Some companies sell compatible cartridges and reset the chip counter. But unless you reset the chip, even tho the cartridge is full of ink, the chip still disables the printer.

MY EPSON SX200 IS REFUSING TO PRINT WITH MY REPLACEMENT INKS. HOW CAN I GET IT TO ACCEPT THEM ?

Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.

How do i make printer accept refilled cartridge t

Maybe you did not refill and insert it very well.

follow this steps in refilling your ink
1. remove the ink cartridge from the printer
2. make a hole at the top end of the cartridge, the hole can be made under the label on the cartridge by using a sharp/hot pin.
3. if you are using a syringe and needle in refilling, make sure you did not insert it into the hole too much so that the cartridge does not get damaged in the process.

4. make sure the ink is not over-filled to avoid spillage which can cause a hell of damage on you printer as it does to my previous one.

5. Gently use the label or a masking tape to cover the hole and insert it into your printer.

Note: The printer gives a message that the cartridge is empty or non compatible, ignore the message and continue with your printing.

It is also advisable that you refill your cartridge not more than 2 times.

Epson SX200 refuses to recognise compatible cartridges

Hi Howard,

Bottom line, if the printer doesn't accept them, then they are not compatible... I'd recommend returning them for a refund and find a supplier that has tried and tested cartridges.

I'd love to be able to recommend a supplier but as I don't have an SX200 I can't... Others might be able to help if you can indicate where you are in the world as the SX200 is, I believe, zone specific.

Best of luck

Refill system for used Epson Stylus C67 cartridges

Hi Edulfo - my advice is to buy compatible cartridges. These are not refills but new cartridges that will work in your printer, but are not made by Epson. See your local e-bay site for very low cost cartridges of this type.

In addition, there are "Continuous Ink Supply Systems" (CISS) which replace the cartridges with bottles of ink. See:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CISS-FOR-EPSON-C67-C87-CX3700-CONTINUOUS-INK-SYSTEM-_W0QQitemZ220307456327QQcmdZViewItem

for information about these. Once again e-bay is the cheapest source.

Refilled Cartridges

I've refilled cartridges twice so far. The first time, the black was completely empty and the color was nearly empty. The printer accepted the color refill and not the black. The second time, I refilled both cartridges before they completely ran dry and both were accepted by the printer. The gauges don't register the ink, but it prints just fine. I just monitor the levels through the print quality. A friend with the same printer has told me that she only get 2 - 3 refills before the cartridge has to be reset, and that is a tricky process, but can be done.
