Question about Maytag Neptune MDG5500AW Gas Dryer

1 Answer

Heating not staying on

When we go to dry a load of clothes, The dryer will heat up and about 10 min. later the dryer will be cold. Everything else seems to work properly just the heat is not staying on.Maytag Neptune  gas dryer 9 yrs. old takes at least 2 hours to dry a small load. Yesterday repairman replaced coil kits($186). Those little things looked fine to me but he said the copper was broken inside of them.  Dryer even worse now.....3 hrs and not dry at all.  Were we ripped off? Should we just put the old ones back in and look for another root problem. Our model number is actually MDG4000AWQ but could not find in your list. Thanks ,  Susie

Test the control panel and the wiring harness to the coils

If the appliance was heating from time to time , the problem were not the coils (heating elements).

The most likely is that you have either a problem with the wiring harness to the coils, that with vibration is losing contact , also a bad control board or termostat can give you similar problems , but the wiring is the most likely.

The technician should have measured elements for continuity before replacing. If it did so, then you can know if elements are good or bads.

Call back the technician , and tell him that the problem was not fixed. More than a rip off this looks like in inaccurate diagnosis/testing after repair. Call the guy back to finish the job.

Maytag neptune dryer doesnt heat

On the housing the element mounts in is a couple of safetys The smaller one is rated for 300f and the bigger one is rated for 250f. If the smaller one is tripped obviously you replace them both, making sure the vent to outside is clear. Them fuses blow or trip because of air restrictions.

Our LG dryer doesn't dry clothes very well. We usually have to run the dryer 2 or 3 times to dry our clothes. I've checked the lint filter, hose and vent. Everything is clear.

if you have checked vent all the way out to termination point and sure that it is clear and not obstructed with damp lint then i would say you possible have a bad thermostat on the heater... this regulates how often and how long the dryer heating element runs and stays off.it has a open temperature and a shut down temperature... i would suggest replacement of that first... it is located on the heating element of unit... it is a round disk shape like bi-metal with 2 wires attached to it...
good luck to you....

It takes 50 min to dry a load of clothes in my 400 series electric dryer can you tell me the problem. I checked the exhaust it looks clear thanks.

It could be heating problem and best way is to check for continuity in heating element and sensors and thermostats and limiters and thermistors in the dryer

My dryer stops drying after 10 min. All the lights flash on the right hand side. I've tried different drying settings and different amounts of clothing. Nothing works. What's wrong?

My dryer does the same thing. Additionally, it is not heating what so ever. Clothes are cool and damp, and heating vents at back of dryer are cold to the touch.

Your heating element is not working. The element could be burnt out or the high temperature switch is bad.

I agree with you that the possible culprit is the thermal cut off sensor. The extreme heating could be caused by a malfunctioning thermostat or heating element.

the gas coils have a problem. as the dryer heats p the coils on the gas valve are failing causing the dryer not to heat. replace the coils and you should have no problem
