Update to new camera

I have a Minolta Maxxum 3xi. What would be a comparable to my Minolta Maxxum 3xi a regular point and shoot or a DSLR? I want to update and upgrade a little. I'm interested in the Nikon P90 or D90, any other suggestions even for a Sony or Canon or Olympus just so the camera would be comparable

It all depends on your budget. But go for a DSLR. I would suggest you to buy among one of the following
Sony SLT-A58K
Canon EOS 700D

This depends on your budget and nature of photography. If you have the budget for a DSLR and you feel that you really need to use different lenses, go for a DSLR.

How can i change the ISO on my camera (minolta maxxum 3xi)? The film i put in is 400 but the assignment requires me to change it to 100

Okay. Just bear in mind that the exposure meter is going to be two stops off, unless you're getting the film pull-processed.

The Maxxum 3Xi unfortunately does not have a way of overriding the Camera Automatic Sensing portion of the DX encoding standard. That is, if the film cartridge has the DX encoding, the camera will set itself to the indicated speed.

However, if the film cartridge is NOT encoded, the camera will set itself to ISO 100. So, if you tape over the magnetic encoding on the cartridge...

The CAS is not the barcode on the film cartridge, but the rectangular patches of conductive and nonconductive material.

Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DX_encoding for more information about the DX encoding.

I just bought a used maxxum 3Xi 35mm SLR camera, it didn't come with a battery charger, what do I do?

The camera doesn't have a built-in rechargeable battery which is why you didn't get a charger!

It uses a disposable 2CR5 battery (goes in the compartment on the bottom.)

Hope this helps,

Matt

Minolta MAXXUM 3xi the view finder is very dark(bought second hand)

I no the older Minolta's had an aperture problem the pictures when zooming out after they were developed were very dark. But inside and wide angel shots always came out nice I had to have the aperture base plate replaced on my Minolta Maxxum 3000i my point and shooter, I wish this helped but it sounds like something different in your case it also maybe the aperture acting different in your camera than it did in 1 of mines.
