I have an Onkyo TX-SR506 AV reciever connected to a Sony bravia TV and a Sony blu-ray DVD. The surround sound is excellent when playing a DVD, but when watching TV only the rear speakers produce a muffled & squeeky sound. I have connected the TV to the AV using a HDMI & Digital optical leads and the Blu-Ray to TV using HDMI & Digital Coaxial leads.

Yes it is. The easiest way to go about this is to get a stereo mini male to left and right male rca cable. Connect the stereo mini end into your ipod, and the left and right male RCA end into an available input on your reciever. Change the input on the reciever to correspond with the input you connected to. Ensure your ipod is powered on and playing with the volume turned up. This set up will play through your reciever but will not charge your ipod. If you want it to charge while playing, than you will need to get a dock.
The only remote that will definitely turn the sat subtitles on/off is the sat remote. The other subtitle buttons on the other remotes refer to the DVD subtitles and the subtitles generated by the tuner in the tv. The subtitle option is greyed out on the tv because you are not on the tv tuner.
