HP Photsmart 4180 will print but not scan.

Even without the setup disc you can still install this to your computer, what we need to do here is to download the printer software and then after that you just need to run the setup from the downloaded software and follow the wizard because it will tell you all the things that you need to do in installing the printer.

This can happen if the printer is not installed from Full photosmart software. or if you changed USB ports where it was pluged into the computer after it was installed.

try deleting the printers and then re install the full photsmart suite.

uninstall...reinstall and make sure you are using the mac drivers.

The only option.....

Download the software in your PC ( On which you can access computer ). Transfer the file to USB plug device or pen drive.

Attach to another computer. Transfer, Install and It's done!!!!!

I have had a similar problem that appeared soon after an automatic HP software update over the internet. I solved the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the HP software that came with the CD. I inserted the CD and ran the de-install for only the program that controlled print and scan and then re-installed the software for print and scan. Straight afterwards, the scanning started to work again

Then choose your operating system from the list (XP, Vista, etc. If you don't know what the X64 bit means then dont select it).

In the next part you can select the full driver or the basic print and scan driver. The difference is that one has all of the HP software from the CD and the other just scans and prints (yet, it is alot smaller). If you like your printer the way it worked with the CD then I recommend downloading the full driver. 

So just click on "HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers" and save it somewhere easy to find like on the desktop then wait for it to finish downloading (It will take some time). Now double-click on the file and follow the instructions and it should work just like the CD.

If you would rather aquire the CD you can choose the 3rd option down on the list. Then HP will mail you a CD. That option will only work for the US and Canada. If you need it delivered somewhere else in the world then you should go to the website for your region.
