Trying to hook up surround sound receiver just like the manual shows but I cant get any sound from the tv but I can get music from the tuner part any suggestions?

Have you enabled the external speaker option on your TV and the set isn't on Mute? Check that you have the surround system's receiver set to the correct input. Next, check the audio level. On some sources for the TV, I need the volume at 65. Other sources sound fine with the receiver at 45. Check that the audio matches that being sent by the TV. On my TV, I needed to go to the Menu > Audio Settings to find the option for turning on the external speakers. Then I had to set the speaker system to Multi-Channel for our specific setup. (There were several options, including Dolby. For my specific setup, these other options didn't give the correct sound.) Finally try a different audio cable between the TV and the receiver.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the make and model number of your TV for additional advice. Adding the type of connection (digital audio (optical/coaxial), HDMI, RCA) will help me suggest potential problem areas.

Surround Sound System Settings ---- Correct Time Delay Setting in Multi-channel Audio

A correctly set surround sound system can yield dramatic improvements to your
home theater sound or multi-channel music listening experience. In particular,
a correctly set time delay setting between the different channels is essential
for a realistic and unified surround soundfield.
Luckily, most of today's surround processors make setting the time delays
between the rear and the fronts a matter of a few entries in the setup menu.
Yet having a proper understanding of the principles behind correct time delay
settings is essential for the best results.
In this guide, we explain the principles behind time delay settings in surround
sound and show you how to adjust your surround processor or AV receiver for the
best surround sound field.

Time Delay Setting in Multi-channel Surround Sound Systems

Correct home theater speaker placement and properly balanced sound levels
between the different channels in multi-channel audio, while crucial, are not
enough to sustain a unified soundfield in a surround sound setup. A correctly
set surround sound system requires that sound from all the different speakers
reach the listener at exactly the same instant.
This explains why all fronts, left, right and center channel speakers, should
be set at exactly the same distance from the listening position. At the same
time, in a typical home theater setup, the surround speakers are closer to the
viewer than the fronts.

To compensate for this distance discrepancy, surround sound playback systems
apply a split-second delay to the surround sound channels.

Hi I am trying to get this reciever to work connected via digtial optical cable to my PC, my sound card shows that it is working becuase when i play a song i can see the levels rising and lowering in the...

I imagine if you disconnected the optical audio cable you would still see sound settings varying on the PC, so it proves nothing.

You need to make sure the Sound Card Digital Output is at a correct sampling rate. Find its digital settings and try 44.1khz, PCM. Experiment wit hall settings.

I'm trying to hook up my Acer Aspire x1700 to a Yamaha HTR - 6130 AV Receiver using the Optical digital audio cable plug. Not getting any sound, not sure what source to set on the receiver.. talks about...

You can set the receiver to any source that uses a optical connection. Then make sure that whatever you select whether it be CD/DVD you also have the source connection set to optical too on the receiver setup menu.
That being said, after that is done you will need to set up the computer to output audio. That usually just involves changing the output mode on the computer and adjusting the levels...open the Acer audio managment application, choose the audio output mode to stereo or dolby digital and turn everything up on the computers level controls. Then, when you open whatever software you're going to use to play your discs you may also have to adjust the volume level there as well.

My acer aspire 5920 is making alot of noise the built in microphone does not seem to turn off

ok i had the same problem up until today and i found a post on a site that really helped me out i had this problem for about two months and was very close the sending it into acers repair center but all it was, was a setting in the audio manager ok here is what you need to do go to control panel, then go to hardware and sound, and then go to manage audio devices under sound then go to recording then click on microphone and go to properties, then go to levels and you should see two settings microphone volume and and microphone boost if your microphone boost is set to +20 which it prolly is just slide it down to zero and wow your problem is fixed. Im not really sure what program might change this setting but acer should really check into it and your system shouldnt let programs change things such as this cause this is a very important setting for having a wonderful entertainment experience. well i hope this helps and all the credit here goes to original poster at http://wynddancer.livejournal.com/22092.html

I have no sound coming from my speakers. Have tried all the troubleshooting option and still have the defect.

1-make sure that digital input source is selected.
2-make sure all audio connecting plugs are pushed in all the way.
3-make sure that polarity of speakers is correct.and the bare wire of cables not in contact with any metal part.
4-make sure that speakers cables not short with each other.
5-check volume and confirm that is not set to low level.
6-check that system is not in mute position.
7-head phone jack is not inserted.
8-repeat your speakers set up and confirm all speakers are on and in good sound level.

When I try to play an audio file on my computer, it says that it seems that no sound device is installed or working on my computer. What's a sound device and how can I solve this problem ?

a sound device is a dedicated board the fits in a free PCI slot(inside the PC) and produces all of the sounds once connected to a set of speakers, hifi unit, some newer PC's come with built in sound cards

not all cards are the same quality some are standard stereo and some are full theatre quality(dolby,THX etc)
so its wise to find a solution for your needs as many aspects of newer cards may never be needed

maybe you have a sound card in your system and have not yet installed drivers if you right click on my computer(on desktop) and use the properties in the menu, you will see a new box ,goto the HARDWARE tab and then the DEVICE MANAGER tab
click the + next to sound, video, gamecontrollers

if u see any mention of an audio device right clickit and select UPDATE DRIVER

but remember a sound card must be connected to speakers or a hifi unit to produce the sound

You'll have to go into Setup and look at

1. Audio asignments. Are you using digital audio (optical cable) ? If so you may need to fix your assignments.
2. In Settings there also is an area to set up your HDMI output. Look there as well.
