Epson r220 carriage jammed

I get a message that says "certain parts have reached the end of their usable life"
The carriage is stuck. The ink bay will not slide and the machine is loaded with fresh ink I can't remove. Any help in recovering my favorite printer will be great!

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your Epson printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.

Fix 'Carriage Jam' : Open Door, clear carriage jam,
and then press OK to continue' error message
Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Had the same problem.
Took alot of work but I fixed it.
Frist thing you need to know that error means your ink waste pad is full. Its a $75.00 to replace but there is a work around it.
You will need this free app. SSC service utitlty.

Instrusctions are on the website there.
You will also have to Open the access panel on the rear of the printer (remove screw) and look inside carefullly with a flashlight. You will see a tube (down and to your left) coming from the cleaning pump and it will have an open end on it. This is the tube that delivers ink to the waste pad.
Use a piece of coat hanger wire or equivalent, and fish out this piece of tube. Bring it to the outside of the printer, thru the access panel.
Find yourself a suitable container (Tupperware or a plastic cup or jar) that is not too tall. Put the tube into this container and secure the tube and container so they won’t come apart or lose connection if the printer is moved.
If you wish you can make a hole or notch in the access panel cover so it can be replaced.

Regarding the Epson Artisan 800, I must thank FixYa and ask that the search for a solution be discontinued.Yesterday, I had an unfortunate accident while trying to unclog the print head which had been printing poorly over the last three months. I used a syringe to force a solvent solution through the clogged head. To my utter surprise the supply line exploded with a loud "POP" meanwhile spraying ink all over the place. At this point it was clear that it was pointless trying to redeem the old Artisan 800. Thank you FixYa. Henry.

Please explain the message I am getting in my printer driver that says parts inside my printer are reaching their end of service life.

Like so many other products, all Epson consumer ink jet products have a finite life span due to component wear during normal use. At some point, the product will reach a condition where either satisfactory print quality cannot be maintained or components have reached the end of their usable life. This is the normal product life cycle for highly mechanical devices like printers. This message is a warning that certain parts have reached the end of their usable life and that your printer will no longer work until it is serviced.

What parts are we talking about?

The message refers to the ink pads, which are actually a number of porous pads in the printer that collect, distribute, and very importantly contain the ink that is not used on printed pages. Ink is collected by these pads during the initial setup of the product, during cleaning cycles and when printing borderless photographs. Most users will not receive this message before the printer is replaced for other reasons. Some high volume users or those who use the printer for many years may receive this message about ink pads before other components reach the end of their usable life.

Why does my printer stop functioning when I get the message?

Epson is committed to ensuring the proper operation of all our devices to minimize the risks of property damage or personal injury during the lifespan of the product. The printers are designed to stop operating at the point where further use without replacing the ink pads could create risks of property damage from ink spills or safety issues related to excess ink contacting an electrical component.

Is there anything I can do to continue using my printer?

Epson recommends replacing the printer, but if you want to continue using it, Epson recommends having the printer serviced at an Epson Customer Care Center. You may also be able to have the ink pads replaced by an independent service provider and use the Ink Pad Reset Utility to reset the Ink Pad Counter to continue using the printer. Please note that replacement of ink pads is relatively expensive and may not be a good investment for lower cost printers because the printers' other components also may be near the end of usable life. Epson does not recommend ink pad replacement by users without technical training or resetting the Ink Pad Counter without replacing the ink pads.

Note: This utility is for Windows XP and Vista operating systems only. We hope to develop an option for Mac users as well; however, we do not have an ETA or the OS requirement at this time.

Epson Stylus 1200 lights indicate carriage jam


This means that your Epson printer has come to its end of life. In short, Epson wants you to retire your printer and buy a new one. Your Epson printer may be in good shape which is often the case. But Epson has this build-in "feature" which they want you to buy a new one.

APPARENTLY EPSON DETERMINES THE PRINTING LIFE OF IT'S PRINTERS AND SCHEDULES THE SHUT DOWN OF THE PRINTERS. HOW CAN I OVERCOME THIS PROGRAMMING?


If you mean the "parts in the printer have reached the end of their service life" or "Service required" then you need to do two things.

1. Reset the waste ink or "protection counter" in your printer.
This requires the SSC utility (for the R220) printer.

2. You need to redirect your waste ink flow to an external tank of some description or replace the waste ink pads in the printer. The external tank is a lot easier to do...

hello there. try re-seating the cartridge. Take it out, then put it back in.

Epson R320 carriage jammed


The ink cartridge is probably not inserted correctly.  Unplug the printer and manually move the carriage to a location where you can take the ink cartridge out.
 
Remove it and reinsert it, making sure that it is fully located, before applying the power.
 
Make sure that there is nothing blocking the carriage movement, such as some remnant of paper.

If the message/error you're getting is:
"Service required"
...or...
"Parts in the printer have reached the end of their service life"
(you get the idea!).

... then your problem is that the waste ink pads in the base of the printer need replacing and a little searching on google using keywords "R220 epson waste ink service" should get you everything you need to:
- reset the waste ink counter
- install an external waste tank

After that it's really a case of carrying on as before... Appreciate this is late in the day but hope it helps.
