Which O system you are using ?

If vista :)

it sounds as if you have a driver or possible a problem with the USB cable as there has been a lot of issue between Vista and HP drivers since its launch i would start there. uninstall drivers and install using the generic drive that comes pre installed on vista

Right click on the printer icon and then check if an option to "Use printer online is avaialble". If not, refresh print spooler service.

Unplug the USB cable of printer from the computer, turn off printer,
Click Start>Run and in the run window, enter services.msc and hit enter.
This will open the services window. In the right pane of the services window, look for Print Spooler service, right click on it and select Restart. Close the services window and then try to set the status of the printer to online (Right click on the printer icon and then check if an option to "Use printer online"), Try to print from the computer.

Got paper jammed pulled it out but now won't work tries but then red flashing and makes a bit of noise

-To clear a paper jam near the paper tray, grip the paper and pull it firmly but gently from the printer. If you find a stack of papers jammed, grab from the middle of the stack and pull.

-For a rear jam, remove the back of the printer. When you find a free edge on the paper, grip it firmly and pull it out.

-Press the "Resume" button or turn off the printer, and then turn it back on. Your settings should reset.

Printer will not work after paper jam fixed

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.

Paper jammed .....but no paper jammed

Sounds like this is a common problem with these printers. Hopefully, this is a malfunction of the printer that you can remedy.

I'm assuming that you have THOROUGHLY searched the printer for any evidence of paper and/or debris. Have you tried resetting the printer? If this issue is as simple as just needing to clear the error from the printer then a reset should work. (If you still have the manual, it should provide instructions on resetting the printer.) This is the best that I can provide on how to reset it:

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Hold the Resume button (red circle in the triangle), add a printer (click Power) an indicator light green.
  3. Hold the Power button and release the Resume button.
  4. NOT releasing the Power button, double click Resume and release BOTH BUTTONS (Power and Resume).
  5. Click Resume four times.
  6. Click Power to confirm the selected action (reset counter absorber). Click Power again to disable the printer.
Please rate this solution or let me know if this was any help.

Try this I found it doing a search on your machine, that foam was called a blotter, and it should work without it, good luck
