Rotting Smell from Whirlpool Duet Front Loading Washer

I have a front loading Duet model GHW9100LW1 Whirlpool Washer. Sludge collects around the metal barrel and also inside the rubber gasket. Hence, the machine stinks like sulfur when it is run. How do we solve the problem?

I also have the stinky sludge problem. I have tried to scrub the inside gasket with bleach, vinegar, run on a hot cycle after, nothing helps.
Thinking of replacing the seal. How do you do that?
Also need to swap the side the door opens--I have the kit but no instructions. Thanks

Take the panel off of the front of your washer below the door and in the middle there is a round removable plastic door like piece. Take it out and clean out all of the junk in behind it. You might find loose change, nails and a variety of other thnigs that have become stuck in there besides mold. This will help with the smell and also the water that sometimes remains in your washer after the cycle is over. You need to do this once/twice year.

What's your problemI have an inglis royal 100 model 1a 86600 The white clothes come out with brown stains on them. It is old but seems to work well. Could it be the front gasket around the drum? I

there either is a rust mark on the tub or under the agitator oil could be leaking out or metal is rotting where the tranny shaft comes up under the agitator but like you said it's old and parts are starting to rust out and decay

Have a whirlpool duet front loading washer. Recently bought a new house, only way to access basement is up 5 steps on side of house to landing with railing.cannot turn machine on landing so door is facing...

This may or may not be helpful but please see the following Whirlpool installation and service manual for the Duet Sport washer.

It has a number of sections on accessing components and you may be able to determine how to take the front off.

Water filling up in Front loading Whirlpool washer

sounds like you have a faulty water valve that does not close when the power is not supplied to the machine.or a problem with the cotrol board supplying power to the valve when the unit is not in use

My towels always smell sour...it doesn't matter what detergent or fabric softener I use. I have the Whirlpool Duet front loading machine and dryer.

The filter on your pump is probably clogged with lint and stuff. You have to remove the bottom front panel, 3 torx screws underneath. The panel will drop and come off. Drain off the excess water from the drain pipe you see. The white filter cover is right in front. Get yourself a good plastic bag to collect water. Unscrew the filter cover and twist the filter out. Clean out all the stuff and put it back in carefully. Check your pump too.

On some models the filter is located ‘inside’ the big hose from the bottom of the tub. This takes more time to clean.

Next run your washer with 2 cups of bleach, hot water. After it starts agitating stop the washer & let it remain for 2 hours. Then continue the wash.
