Take one screw and try each hole and find the better spot.

Biosremoval 595b

You will need to reset the BIOS. For this you will need to remove the keyboard, unplug the CMOS battery for an hour then reassemble. Tools needed are a small Phillips/star head screw driver and a small flat head screw driver or knife for the bezel if you don't have a pry tool. If you are confident to go ahead with this on your own, follow the instructions in the following link. http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Disassembling+Dell+Latitude+D630+Coin+Battery+(CMOS)/13250/1

My DELL D630 beeps 6 times at startup and proceeds to boot up successfully. After bootup the keyboard does not work at all. However the touchpad and works fine and I am able to perform all those actions...

Grab a USB keyboard and plug it up to the laptop to see if it works. If it does type in windows then its hardware problem if not its a software problem.
How I check to see if this is hardware problem:
Those Beeps are a series or sequence of beep codes called Bios beep codes they usually point to Memory sticks or Keyboard. Here is a website that I use to help determine what the beeps mean.
http://www.bioscentral.com/postcodes/dellbios.htm
Remove battery and unplug power adaptor!
Try this! Page 22 is the first memory stick ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_latitude_laptop/latitude-d630_service%20manual_en-us.pdf
easy to get to. Take the memory out . power up the laptop listen for beeps. It should say the system memory has been changed f1 to continue. Let it load up and test your if keyboard has issue. power down the laptop and power it back up listen for beep again. If the same thing power laptop down. Place back the memory that you took out and go to page 19 to remove keyboard. The Second piece of memory is underneath the keyboard. Remove that then power down the laptop and restart it again. Listen to beep again for change for it will get the same message that the system memory has been change let it load up and power it down and restart it again. If the keyboard doesnt work then you know its the keyboard now.

I changed the battery on my D630 and lost the date & time. I assume the cmos battery is bad. Where is it located on a D630 and what is the battery #?

CMOS Coin-cell is located under the keyboard. You have to remove the hinges cover and keyboard to access the coin -cell

Please study the following two links giving clear instructions about changing the coin-cell battery of Dell D630.
