Well ive had this problem for nearly half a year and it is still not fixed. i have a demanding job that needs a steady connection. I have a Westell 6100 modem connected to a wired broadband router which then connects to my computer. I have filters set everywhere where they are supposed to be. Basically every time someone calls my house landline phone, after the last ring my internet just disconnects for a second and then the dsl light blinks on the modem and connects like 5 seconds later.no orange light appears. Please help this is urgent. I have contacted verizon tech support serveral times and went through their laborious fixes which didn't work anyway.
Please check if filter is properly seated to your answering machine or fax machine if you have any those.
if you are using a splitter from the phone jack please make sure it is properly seated.
if you can hear bit of static noise on your phone line please try to do this...
1) try to unplug the modem from the phone jack and power outlet
2) make sure phones are plugged in without filters
3) check on one of your phones if you could still hear that noise on your phone
4) If you can hear that noise on the line please contact your telephone repair dept because they need to fix your phone line
5) If the noise went out, please contact your Internet service provider because the field tech needs to check the NID(Network Interface Device)

could you clarify the accroynmns thanks donor
most likely jack splitters, ive never heard of ADSL/ pots splitters
Well if you are talking about the jack splitter as in the little box that goes on top of the jack with 2 phone holes, im not using those. i have a jack in the living room with the phone and a seperate jack in my computer room. I rechecked all the filters are seated properly and called my house from my cell. still nothing
Another symptom of this problem is that I can hear a little bit of static on the phone when its on the dial tone. does that help solve this puzzle?
Well i tested my phone and did what you said. you know the sound for dial up right? everytime we either call out or get a call in, we hear that sound and the goes out, reconnects a few times and is fine a few minutes later. Also when i go on my modems internet setup. it gets readings of 400 or 800 kb per second. the normal readings are 3000~ kb per second. we are paying for 3 megs a second. any help there??
ADSL-Asymetrical Digital Subscriber Line (broadband)
POTS-Plain Old Telephone Service
NID-Network Interface Device (box on the outside of your house)
Can you access your modem to see the noise and attenuation levels?
Sounds like a bad splitter somewhere. Are you using jack splitters or a ADSL/POTS splitter at the NID?
