Laptop is showing my network

My desktop is connecting to my router just fine but when i go to connect my laptop, the network isnt there.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

I assume you are using wireless on the laptop? If so, pls provide the following information:

    1) Is the wireless card built in? Or is it an external card?

    2) are you attempting to use the OS utility? or the wireless card utility?

    3) if the network is not showing up, is there any wording in the screen where you are looking that could provide some clues?

Hello write 1tune2,

1. Using a computer wired to the router, please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
2. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
3. For security reasons, the router has its own username and password. When prompted, please type in admin for the Username and password for the Password, both in lower case letters.

Note: If it doesn't take password as the password, you might have changed it when you have run the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords. If you can't remember the password, you need to reset the router and run the Setup CD to reconfigure it.

4. Click the Wireless Settings under Advanced tab.
5. Check the box under Enable Wireless Router Radio and Enable Wireless SSID Broadcast.
6. Click the Wireless Settings under Setup.
7. Change Channel (recommended are 1, 6 and 11).
8. Change the SSID to uniquely identify your network. You might have a similar SSID with your neighbor.

Note: Do not change the SSID if there are already other wireless computers that can connect to the network.

Other factors that you may consider when you are not able to view any available wireless network.

a. Switch for the wireless adapter is turned off.
b. Distance between the wireless router and computer.
c. Possible wireless interferences.

Router is connected to my laptop but my emachines computer isnt showing any connects

To connect your computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh network list, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connect to your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Key before allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This Network Key is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used to configure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way to setup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrase that was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.

My Dell desktop using Windows XP can't connect to my Belkin 5720 router but my laptop still works?

This sounds like a hardware failure, but just in case go to your computer Control Panel-Network Connections(Network and Sharing Center for Vista and above), and check your Network adapter settings. If your Network card is not showing, you may have a driver issue, or a bad NIC (Network Interface Card). It shouldn't matter that your router says" wireless hardware not detected", because you are hardwired from the computer to the router. I would check to see if you may have turned off, or blocked Ethernet connections on your router, I would then change my Cat5 (Ethernet) cable, and finally open the desktop and change out the NIC (Network Interface Card).

Desktop works (direct to router), laptops cannot connect

first of all make sure that the wireless settings of the router match the settings of your wireless computer.

make sure also that there are no friewall or security programs running in your computer because they can interfere with the wireless connection as well.

Wireless connection issues (to be origional lol)

Is your desktop pc still working fine.., clear your preferred wireless networks in your laptop, try searching for the wireless network again, check if you are abe to pick up any other wireless network in your laptop, so that you can conclude whether the problem is with the laptop or the router..if not try reconfiguring your wireless settings in your wireless router and check it out ,that will fix your problem..all the best..
