How do I solve (3x-2y)2(3xy-3)

First, we will find y in terms of x. We will use the first equation to determine this.
4x+2y=2
We can subtract 4x from both sides:
2y=2-4x
And then divide both sides of the equation by two:
y=1-2x
Since we now have y in terms of x, we can substitute this into our second equation.
-3x-y=-3
-3x-(1-2x)=-3
Then, we can distribute the minus sign
-3x-1+2x=-3
-x-1=-3
Next, we can add 1 to both sides of the equation.

-x=-2
Finally, we divide both sides by negative one to isolate x.
x=2
Now that we have x's value, we can find y's value.
The first thing that we determined is:
y=1-2x
We can substitute in the value of x to this equation.
y=1-2x
plot-formula.mpl?expression=y=1-2%2a2&x=0003
y=1-4
y=-3
Therefore, we now have the values of both variables.
x=2
y=-3

The sum of two numbers is 64 and three times their difference is 30. calculate the value of the two numbers?

Call them x and y
x + y = 64
3 (x-y) = 30
so x = 64 - y
and 3 (64 - y- y) = 30
64 - 2y = 10
2y = 54
y = 27
x = 37

2X+4Y=-8

2x + 4y = -8 ; divide each side by 2
x + 2y = -4 ; subtract x from both sides
2y = -4 - x ; rearrange
2y = -1x -4 ; divide each side by 2
y = -1/2x - 2 ; relate to slope/intercept form of line (y=mx+b)

implies there are multiple solutions that fall along a line with slope -1/2 and y intercept of -2

X-3y=5 3x-2y=1

2y - x = 3
x = 3y - 5

Add the two equations side by side,

2y - x + x = 3 + 3y - 5

2y = 3y - 2

y = 2

Plug this in the second equation to get x,

x = 3(2) - 5

x = 1

So the solution is x = 1, y = 2

or in ordered pair notation (1, 2)

4x+8y=20 || /4
x+2y=5
x=5-2y

-4x+2y=-30 || /2
-2x+y=-15
-2(5-2y)+y=-15
-10+4y+y=-15
5y=-5
y=-1

x=5-2y || y=-1
x=5-2(-1)
x=5+2

Solving systems of equations by elimination

Hi joanmae jmeh;

You can add these equations just like you would numbers

3x + 2y = 7
5x - 2y = 1
-----------------------
8x =8
x=1
Now plug x = 1 back into either equation and you can solve for y
Y = 2

When you add the 2 equations together the +2y and the -2y cancel
out

Hope this helps Loringh Please leave a rating for me Thks

Your friend John asks you for advice concerning life insurance. John is 32 years old and graduated from law school last year. he currently earns $48,000 per year as a first year attorney. John is married and has two children, Billy, age 10, and Sarah, age 4. John's wife, Mary, is a professor who currently earns $58,000 per year. Mary is 34 years old. John and Mary pay $1,700 per month for their home mortgage, which will be paid off in 20 years. The interest rate on their mortgage is 4.5%. (Their current equity in the home is $75,000.) The couple owns two cars, both 8 years old, and personal property (such as clothes, electronics, furniture, etc.) values at $45,000. Their investments have been used up paying for John's law school education, so they currently have only $1,000 in savings and checking accounts, and $2,000 in a mutual fund. John has no life insurance. Mary has $100,000 of life insurance provided by her employer. mary's pension plus social security are expected to total $45,000 per year, beginning when she is 67 years old. If John should die, Mary would receive approximately $10,000 per year from social security until Sarah reaches age 18. John and Mary spend most of their current income, although they do try to save about $50 per month. Their investments earn approximately 5% per year. In addition to their home mortgage, John has a student loan of $15,000 that he must start making payments on in 6 months. he plans to pau back the loan in 5 years and the loan's interst rate is 6% per year. Given that Mary enjoys a flexible work schedule, and because Mary's mother lives close by and watches the kids two days per week, the currently are not paying any child care expenses.
