Laser head and paper rolers need cleaning geting speckles. Have drum out but how do i get it them and what is best to clean them with

Spots on the laser glass would show up as white vertical stripes in your print.

The drum unit has a soft plastic blade inside it to constantly clean the drum as it turns. Sometimes a clump of toner gets caught under the blade, but that usually shows up as a narrow band of spotty or gray stuff down the page. The clump may carve a groove in the drum, too. The cure is to replace the drum unit, unless it's new, in which case the cure is to make the store replace the drum unit.

In the back of the printer is the fuser, which runs the paper between hot rollers to bake the powder into the paper. The rollers are coated with Teflon or similar stuff, to prevent picking up toner and laying it back down further down the page. With age & use, the coating fails, and spots appear. Look for a pattern that repeats every 3 inches or so as the roller comes around.

Brothers are also prone to spot due to a bad toner cartridge. Take the toner cartridge out of the drum cartridge, hold it over a sheet of paper or two, and try to shake toner out of it. A little toner spill is normal, but if you get a pile under one end, a seal has gone bad in the cartridge. You need a new toner ctg.

Every manufacturer wants you to spend your money on their own supplies, of course, but in the case of Brother laser printers & faxes, refilled toner cartridges can sometimes break your machine. At the end of the cartridge is a wheel that stirs the toner inside; it's engaged by a thing in the machine that comes out as you close the toner door. Brother uses toner with smooth, round particles in their cartridges. Some refillers use toner that's just as fine, but ground to rough shapes. It resists stirring enough to sometimes break the gear inside the machine, making for an expensive repair. That's not your problem here, but you should consider that if you're headed to the store for new toner.

I get a line in the print how do i fix it

Hi,
Lines on the page is usually due to debris or scratches on the laser drum or fuser roller. These are situated within your toner refill cartridge. Check these rollers by removing the cartridge and pulling back the flap which conceals the rollers. Take note that the drum is sensitive to light & should not be exposed to light for prolonged periods. Check that there are no marks or scratches on the drum or fuser roller. Whipe off marks on the drum with a soft cloth or if there are scratches, replace the whole cartridge unit.

Best wishes,
Graemevm

I have changed cartridge and drum in the printer

If the cartridge has irregularities on it you will get poor results. The large black roller should be smooth all the way around. Any bumps will cause lines and spots. It is not recommended but I have had luck cleaning that large black roller. Once smooth the lines went away.

  2. Press the Options key on the control panel.
The display will show "REPLACE DRUM - 1.YES 2.NO".

Our printer makes three dark marks on left side of printer. We have replaced the roller once and we still have the three dark marks on left. it is getting worse every day

Did you replace the toner cartridge or the imagine drum? My bet is you have only change the toner cartridge. The drum unit will require changing from time to time as well. It is likely that drum is worn out in that spot.

Printed sheets come out with blackish/greyish lines on the right side

Use follow these cleaning steps for your printer:

1. Open the front cover of the printer and remove the drum/toner unit.
2. Gently wipe the scanner window with a soft dry cloth. The scanner
window is located on the roof of the inside of the printer.
3. On the top of the drum unit, locate the blue tab on the left side.
Slide it back and forth across the drum about 30 times.
4. Remove the toner cartridge (TN430 or TN460) from the drum unit
(DR400). To remove the toner from the drum: hold down the blue lever on the right side of the drum (DR400) and lift the toner (TN430 or TN460) off of the drum unit.
5. Inside the drum unit (DR400) there is a green roller. Wipe the green
drum roller with a dry tissue (i.e. Kleenex). You may turn this roller
by moving the gears on the far left side.
6. If the pages area gray pages or have gray vertical lines, install a
brand new toner cartridge. If pages have dots, spots, smudges or
horizontal lines, install a brand new drum unit.
OR
If you are still experiencing gray pages or gray vertical lines,
please install a brand new toner cartridge (TN430 or TN460).

Drum replacement but not printing

Your almost there. Now you need to replace the 'Transfer Roller'. The transfer roller transfers the image from the drum onto the paper. If this roller is worn out all you'll get is blank pages printing out. Ray CompuGuy44

Improve print quality

If you have changed drum AND toner, and reset drum count, cleaned scan slit glass on lit then only other thing to clean that can cause dirty prints is laser glass, (remove drum, inside where drum goes there is a slit the rund width of printer on inside middle "ceiling"

The orange piece I take it is the lower heat roller at rear, cleaning this is not going to fix anything.. this area called the fuser sometimes the fuser wears the coating off the upper heat roller (above orange one) and leaves like a smudge mark on prints, like I say cleaning wont fix replacingfuser with new would be what is required

I find a lot of grey shading on prints on this model are from faulty toner cartridges, next is drum then worn fuser roller... Stop a print half way (timing) in machine remove drum and look at print, after drum but pre fuser ,to see if image is ok before entering fuser, then we know if that is your problem
