IPhone froze while in an app (Pandora radio). Home button, and Touch screen are inoperative. Touching the screen increases screen brightness until normal turn off period. Held power down until red slider appeared. Slider has no effect. Cannot turn off iphone. Volume buttons raise and lower onscreen indication of volume. Mute switch causes mute bell to appear, and unmute causes solid bell to appear along with momentary vibration.
Any ideas?

No sound. I realize pressing FN+F5mutes F6 turns sound on F7 lowers F8 raises sound. None of this has any effect. The different sound graphs appear the numbers move up and down, the mute shows X on graph etc. No matter what no sound. No sound. this is what you gotta do:
Press and hold the Home and Power buttons for aroung 5 to 10 seconds to force it OFF. then, press and hold the Power button for around 3 to 5 seconds to turn it ON.
The only way to reset it if you really do not know the password is to put it in restore mode and connect it to iTunes for a full restore. You cannot restore it in iTunes unless you are in restore mode since you do not have the password.
ALSO! Please know that once you put it in restore and connect to iTunes for the restore process, the apps and songs on the actual iPod Touch will be gone.
Anyway, to put the Touch in restore mode do this:
o put the iPhone / iPod Touch into recovery mode: - Turn it off (hold the power button on the top down for a few seconds then slide the red slider across from left to right). - Press and hold the home button (the button on the front, under the screen) - While still holding the home button, plug it in to the computer The screen should show something like this:
iPhone / iPod Touch Recovery Mode You should now be able to use iTunes to restore the iPhone / iPod Touch by clicking the Restore button.
You should restore completely, but just note that this will wipe all of the data on the phone.
Turn the iPhone off by holding the button on the top and sliding the red bar to shut down the iPhone.
Now go into iTunes on your computer,
While holding down the iPhone circle button, plug the iPhone into the cable connected to your USB port.
Continue holding down the iphone button until the computer in itunes tells you that it has discovered an iPhone in recovery mode. From there, you can just click on the restore button. It will download the latest firmware for your iPhone (your iPod) and will apply it as well as perform a factory reset. Once this is finished, the iPod has been factory restored just like when it was new.
No matter what anyone says, the problem will eventually force you to do a restore anyway. There might be a few temporary patchups but when you start seeing panics on the system apps especially, there is something off. Restore and your set! Good luck!!
Try forcing an application to close
To force an application to close, follow these steps: iPhone or iPod touch running iPhone OS 3.0 or later
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. When the red slider appears, release the Sleep/Wake button.
Instead of dragging the red slider, press and hold the Home button for six seconds.
If the device does not return to the Home screen, see the steps below to restart.
iPhone or iPod touch running iPhone OS 2.2.1 or earlier
Press and hold the Home button for six seconds.
If the device does not return to the Home screen, see the steps below to restart.
If the iPhone or iPod touch remains unresponsive, try restarting the device: Restarting iPhone or iPod touch
To turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone.
To turn iPhone or iPod touch on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If the iPhone or iPod touch remains unresponsive after trying the above steps or if it is in a different state, such as showing a persistent Apple logo on the display, try resetting the device: Resetting the iPhone or iPod touch
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds.
Have you tried doing a hard shut down? Hold the silver button down on the upper right corner and also the home button (center, bottom indented button) together for about 10 seconds. the phone will completly shut off. then wait about 10 seconds and hold down the upper right hand button until the apple appears on the phone then release the button and wait (20-30seconds) . Doing this usually solves all my issues with my iphone when it gets locked up like this.
