Question about Audio Players & Recorders

4 Answers

Pioneer VSX-D308. Unit goes to "muting" and no audio. Seems to be a common problem from internet questions. I have a repair manual and have checked voltages and muting transistors. Can insert audio to final power amps and get sound but middle drivers won't pass audio and display jumps to muting. Preamp section has audio also using signal tracer Seems to lose it at the tone control IC. I don't mind paying for assistance that is correct but don't need any guesses!

All driver and output chips are new. All necessary voltages are present.

There are a number of possibilities here. Check the voltages at the tone control IC. If there is no supply there, the signal will stop. Also, verify that the voltage regulator ICs have correct voltages as well. The next step is to determine whether the muting transistors are being told to mute or not. You should see a mute line on the micro. I don't have the manual with me so I don't know if that line is high or low, but the manual should indicate which.

Let me know the results and we'll continue from there.

Thanks,
Dan

Just spoke with a buddy of mine at a Pioneer service center. If you have the remote, hit the mute button. There is no provision for this on the front panel, but the unit might have gotten confused at one point. Let me know if that clears it. Other than that I will get the service manual and check for you.

You need to pay attention on system control power supply ( +5 V ), Serial Clock and Serial data signal amplitude should be as per service manual in system control and DSP (digital sound processore)

I do not have Pioneer VSX-D308 service manual and if you can email me that service manual then I can help you out more precisely.

Based on your comments [ Can insert audio to final power amps and get sound but middle drivers
won't pass audio and display jumps to muting. Preamp section has audio
also using signal tracer Seems to lose it at the tone control IC.]

Please confirm output with signal tester at IC207 pin 1 & 7, found OK then pin 5 & 3 as inputs, found signal then go back to IC202 pin 2 (L in) and 19 (R in) Please make sure to test supply voltage at pin 20 (9 V) and pin 1 (4.6V) with DVM
    IC206 (44Khz Low Pass Filter) should have +12 V at pin 8 and -12 V at pin 4
Let me know results so move forward if all above is clear.
    Thanks.

Hi
you need to explore the output protection circuit ( relay, fuse ,electronic switch) and find out the bad amp(s) and replace the output transistors or modules (mounted on the big heatsink.) . The repair is expensive ....rate this solution as fixya if it is helpful....

I have a Pioneer VSX-D308 reciever and I have... no idea how to hook it up to my big TV (bought receiver used). Do I need the red/white cords? Do I need other cables? HELP! Wanting to hook up to big...

What your unidentified TV >>requires<< is the BEST Video from every video source. That would be the DVD, SAT Box. It probably has multiple high-end video inputs, right?

What your receiver needs is at least a basic composite video connection to the TV so you can set it up and manage it.

A web search for "Pioneer VSX-D308 manual" will find the manual.

ALL of the BEST Audio should go directly to the Pioneer. That includes the SAT and DVD player.

Your TV can exist just fine with basic audio from the video sources. And you could still watch it/them without the Pioneer turned of if you want.

I can't find the exact manual for free anywhere but if you download something similar like http://www.retrevo.com/support/Pioneer-VSX-D409-Receivers-manual/id/385ci977/t/2/ it should give you the basic guidance you need.

I recommend

Do some web searching for what the cables are for. It's all basic and standard.

Pioneer Elite vsx-27tx receiver with no bass!?

There may be a subwoofer mute function on your amp. The sub out is nothing more than a preamp output with a low frequency response. It is meant to be amplified by an external amp. Either check your powered subwoofer for operation or look through your operators manual for a sub mute function.
