Updates won't install Vista

I have a Sony laptop with Vista. It is almost two years old. I have it set to install updates automatically. It worked fine for a while, but now it shows two updates KB948109 and KB951338 continue to fail every day.

It doesn't show that Service Packs 1 or 2 have ever been installed. It seems like it is trying to install them automatically, but the updates are not working. Can you help me?

- Thanks a lot. My computer is working fine, but I thought maybe the updates were necessary.

- Thanks again. When I right click "Computer" and go to properties it doesn't show that either Service pack 1 or 2 are installed. Does that seem right to you? I use automatic updates. I have another computer with XP and it shows that Service pack 3 is installed when I check it.

- Thanks again. I don't even have service pack 1 on my vista machine. Shouldn't that be on there? I hate to keep bothering you, but it bothers me a little bit.

Both of those patches are security updates. To be honest with you I would not worry about them. They are not urgent updates. I own vista myself and I do not install anything unless it says urgent. Otherwise Vista is known for having you install certain updates that are not for your computer meaning 32bit or 64bit computers. So just keep that in mind

- No they werent. When you see the update icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. The yellow shield. Click on it and it will tell you if the update is urgent, or optional. If it says optional then you do not need to download it. Only the urgent, I found that out the hard way by downloading everything in the update and found my computer ran really slow and drivers where being deleted and things like that. So I read up on it and it is just the urgent updates that need to be done. Glad this help. Take care
