Question about Computers & Internet

Updates won't install Vista

I have a Sony laptop with Vista. It is almost two years old. I have it set to install updates automatically. It worked fine for a while, but now it shows two updates KB948109 and KB951338 continue to fail every day.

It doesn't show that Service Packs 1 or 2 have ever been installed. It seems like it is trying to install them automatically, but the updates are not working. Can you help me?

Thanks a lot. My computer is working fine, but I thought maybe the updates were necessary.

  • lmoll Feb 12, 2009

Thanks again. When I right click "Computer" and go to properties it doesn't show that either Service pack 1 or 2 are installed. Does that seem right to you? I use automatic updates. I have another computer with XP and it shows that Service pack 3 is installed when I check it.

Thanks again. I don't even have service pack 1 on my vista machine. Shouldn't that be on there? I hate to keep bothering you, but it bothers me a little bit.

Both of those patches are security updates. To be honest with you I would not worry about them. They are not urgent updates. I own vista myself and I do not install anything unless it says urgent. Otherwise Vista is known for having you install certain updates that are not for your computer meaning 32bit or 64bit computers. So just keep that in mind

No they werent. When you see the update icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. The yellow shield. Click on it and it will tell you if the update is urgent, or optional. If it says optional then you do not need to download it. Only the urgent, I found that out the hard way by downloading everything in the update and found my computer ran really slow and drivers where being deleted and things like that. So I read up on it and it is just the urgent updates that need to be done. Glad this help. Take care

I upgraded my SONY VAIO VGN-C2S/H from vista to windows 7... but its not recognizing memory stick

Go on sony website and dowload the proper drivers for your machine. The old drivers from vista might not work properly in 7. I, personaly, recomand a fresh clean install in the upgrading cases. That means to format the HDD and install everything from zero. Upgrating from an OS to another by installing an update patch is not a big deal. There might remain some dirty registry wich will make the sistem running slowly.

I have the sony vaio SZ-360P and i installed windows 7 on. I try to search the web for the graphic driver but still nothing, and im trying to guess what kind of VGA I have so my question can u help with...

First the easiest way is to try to update the VGA (Display) Drivers automatically from internet. Right Click My Computer and go to Properties - then Device Manager. Look for VGA Display Adapters (Drivers) in the list. Right Click the Display Adaptor and Choose update Drivers automatically. This will update the Drivers automatically from windows update and install the latest compatible drivers (if available).

Secondly, Sony Vaio SZ-360P is compatible with Windows Vista. Hence, there is a great possibility the VGA Drivers for Vista would work. So, download the Vista Drivers and try them.
Good Luck!
Hope this helps!

Install xp on sony series nr

The BIOS doesn't care nor detect the installed OS and should only be upgraded if you are having BIOS issues.

The old adage "If it works don't try to fix it" certainly applies here.

How can Isettle to operatethe built in camera of VGN S210P -VISTA

You need to re-install the Camera Driver after installing the Vista Operating System in the Computer. Please try installing the WIndows XP Camera Driver and the Vista Camera Application in the Computer to resolve the issue.

You can download the Camera Driver here.

Please download and save the file in a folder in the Computer. Then, please open the folder where the file is saved and double click on it to begin the installation. After installation of the Driver, please restart the Computer for the settings to take the effect.

Then, please download and install the Vista Camera Application and Updates in the Computer.

Download the VAIO Camera Capture Utility

Download the VAIO Camera Capture Utility Update

Sony Camera Filter Driver Update

Please install the VAIO Camera Capture Utility and Updates in the same order. Please restart the Compuer after each installation for the settings to take the effect.

This should fix it..

Good luck..

Driver

The original driver that came with the mouse is useless in Vista. You can however get the basic functions to work if you make sure that the mouse settings in the "Device Manager" are set to show that you are using an "HID" compliant device. Also, in my case, when I tried to install the mouse on my laptop, it was showing up in "DM" as an "other" category as an "unknown" device. I just selected the "unknown" device, clicked on properties and updated the driver using the automatic function and that got mine working for me. Once I succeeded to get the mouse working, the "other" category dissapeared. I do not know if it switched to the "mouse" or the "HID Devices" category nor do I care now that it works.

** DO NOT waste your time looking for the old driver or a new driver! There are no updated drivers or software for this mouse to be used in Vista nor will there ever be. That info come straight from Micro Innovations.

Good luck and keep trying different settings in Device Manager until you succeed.

Your problem: "I have Windows Vista installed on my laptop."

Unfortunately, as with a lot of MS service packs, they can crash some computers. You need your windows vista disk and, booting from it, you can select repair your vista installation. This should take care of the problem. Then don't update to sp1 for a few months.
