Question about Philips Standard (CRT) Televisions

Open Question

TV stuck on blue screen with mono on it.

I was trying to turn down my magnovax tv down and hit the channel button a few times instead. I did this on the actual tv. Now the screen is stuck on the blue screen with the word mono on it. Even when I put on channel 3 or 4 can someone help me get my picture back?

the tacticle (micro switches)on the front of the main chassis have most likely gotten wet at some time,I suggest replacing them all.

good day
due to the long time the buttons were not used, they tend to get stuck and this causes channels eighter to stay in one station or continou scanning. it could be resolved by spraying WD40 on the buttons and press it many times then dry it before operating the unit.

SOURCE: Stuck on channel 2, "No Signal" and snow

Two things may be at play here. The tv might be only programmed for reception on channel 2 and will need to be re programmed to receive other channels.
Also try some basic troubleshooting on the remotes. Start with the remote that came with the tv. Replace the batteries try the "MENU" button. If you can get into the menu try to "autoprogram" the TV

FPA Lock "ON"

Most RCA sets use a four digit code to control the v-chip. The code reset is different depending on the model. Try each number until you find the one that works for you.
1.Hold down the MENU button on the remote and VOLUME DOWN button on the TV it's self at the same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be unlocked
2.Hold down the 0 (zero) button on the remote and the VOLUME DOWN button on the TV itself at the same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be unlocked
3.Hold down the MENU button on the front of the TV and the TV button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds. 4- Hold down GO BACK button on the remote and MENU button on the front of the TV at the same time for at least 4 seconds.
  1. Hold down EJECT button on the front of the TV set and the MENU button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds. Depending on the model, one of the methods should unlock the V-chip. Now, if desired, you can change the settings on the V-chip by going to the MENU and going to PARENTAL CONTROLS, or on some sets, going to MENU and then going to TV SETUP, then to V-CHIP SET.

Tv stuck on ''sale'' screen

Normaly you WILL have to obtain the remote to get the tv out of sales mode.

A few tricks that you can try.
1. Hold down the menu button as you power on the tv.
2. Hold down the channel up and down (at the same time) as you power on the tv.
3. Hold down the volume up and down (at the same time) as you power on the tv.

Sometimes you have to hold the buttons down for up to 10 seconds after the television is powered on.

Lastly you can try unplugging the television for an extended period of time and see if the television will reset itself.

If you have no luck with these tricks then you are going to have to post some information reguarding the manufacture, model # of the set so someone can look up the information for you.

Channel keeps changing

It sounds like a stuck button or switch. What happens when you hit the channel DOWN, does it still keep scrolling down?
Is this with or without the remote?
Have you tried it with the remote and or the TV?

Let me know whether you are changing the channels with the remote or the buttons on the tv and I can try to give you a couple more suggestions.

Sylvania SST4272

I had the same problem with a Sylvania SRT2227S. I kept trying to fix it using the remote but after reading your posting I pressed the Volume (down) button, which cycled through the same menus you mentioned. Then I pressed the Power button on the TV and that fixed it.

The problem started for me when pressed PIP, CC, and Guide buttons on a Philips universal remote control. My TV does not support these functions and it seems to put it in this "service mode". Now I can fix it by pressing Volume (down) or Menu then the Power button on the TV (do not use the remote as it is useless when the TV is in this mode). I hope this works for you too.

Mono setting?

What channel is it and when they tune in that channel, is the picture nice and clear or is it grainy and snowy before the screen goes blue? On some sets, if the signal is weak, the picture will go blue. This is called Blue Screen and is there so you do not see very poor, grainy and snowy pictures. Some sets will have an option in the menu to turn the blue screen off.
