Usually the extra hard drive and the DVD/CD are sharing a cable. I have had luck physically swapping the positions they are plugged into. weird, but true.

Try reseatting the DVD/CD drive also reinstall the DVD/CD driver.

hope this helps
if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

My computer runs so slow and cant play my games on count of it. It needs cleaned up bad and i dont know how to do it. Please help me.

Backup all your files (E-mail, address book, music, license-keys for purchased software),
writing either to DVD-recordable disks, to an USB memory-stick, or to an external disk-drive.

Then, reinstall Windows, "wiping" everything from your disk-drive.
Run "Windows Update" (repeatedly) to get all the latest security-updates.
Reinstall anti-virus software.
Reload your files.
Reinstall the purchased software.
Reinstall the free software (Adobe Reader? WinAmp?).

> hard-drive bad

If you get a message "press F1 to continue", then do so.
Be ready to "backup" all your files and music from the disk-drive onto a USB memory-stick, or to burn some CD/DVD disks.

Then, replace the disk-drive, and reinstall Windows.

Hello i have a packard bell imedia x9494 with windows vista few days ago i had installed windows 7 without problems than i had a virus in my computer so i had try to reinstall windows but now they say...

If your hard drive is not being detected, try looking in the bios. I had a similar problem and for some reason the setting for using the hard drive as a bootable device had been changed.

My dvd drive doesnt open on my Compaq Presario SR2150NX, i finally got it open with the manual open, but im trying to install windows 7 on it, but when i try it says theres something wrong with something...

Check to see if the DVD drive is connected to the power supply and the IDE connectors.
Can your dvd drive be displayed in "My Computer"
If yes, then it is connected, so, you will have to reinstall the drivers. They could be corrupted?

Thank you for using Fixya,

When the computer starts up. "Gateway" appears on the screen. Then the computer freezes. None of the reinstallation discs do anything. How do I fix this?

Reboot and keep tapping on F8 to go to Safe Mode. Do not put the reinstallation disk yet. Once in Safe Mode select "last known good configuration".

You can also run "Chkdsk" from the C hard drive Properties if you get to Safe Mode. Double click "My Computer", right click on C drive, select Properties, select Tools tab, go to Error checking and click on "Check now" then check "automatically fix file system errors" and "scan for and attemp recovery for bad sectors" and click "start"

If that doesn't work proceed to do System Restore in Safe Mode or remove previous programs that may have caused your Windows to freeze. If you suspect virus, run your anti-virus in Safe Mode.

If none of the above works then try your XP CD (or reinstallation disk) and do a repair.

Dopředu děkuji a přejei krásný den. S pozdravem Bundzíková Světlana
