No sound alert on incoming messages in Skype 4

That's it really. No sound alert when messages come in. In options, when I try to set sounds, there is no playback when I click 'play this sound'. Sound alert for IM is ticked. I have XP Professional.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks - but I think I am using the latest version (4.0.0.206). There is a sound alert when a call comes in but just a pathetic little exclamation mark in the system tray for messages - so I miss them all.

Get rid of audible alert when email messages come in.

Hi
I have found this on several phones. You can get rid of the alert about email messages, and voicemail etc etc. But I have always found (at least so far) that you can turn all sound alerts off or leave them on, you cannot turn it on for calls in, and off for emails.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

Settings
In this menu, you can adjust various phone
settings. To reset some menu settings to their
default values, select Restore factory set.
Tone settings
Select Menu > Settings > Tone settings and from the available
options:
Ringing tone-To set the tone for incoming calls
Ringing volume-To set the volume level for the ringing and

call or a text message
Message alert tone-To set the tone to sound when you receive
a text message
