Acer Aspire 3680 Cracked Screen *help*

Hi I have an Acer Aspire 3680 laptop with a completely busted screen. It has all of my school work on there and programs that I need to get into. If I were to get an external monitor... how would i go about hooking up the laptop to the monitor and what key combination would I use to get the external monitor to display the laptop screen. Keep in mind that the screen is so cracked that I cannot make out anything on the screen. If anyone has ANY advice I'm willing to take it! It would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Lindsey

Thanks for all of the advice, and so quickly too! Can I just use any old monitor or does it have to be something special?

You might also consider having your hard drive removed and replaced in either another laptop or an external hard drive case.

These methods would allow you to acess your files. I hope this solution is helpful. Please remember to rate this solution.

Just your luck that Acer 3680 has a VGA connector so u can hook up an external display very easily...

Connect the monitor, flat panel, or projector to the laptop's 15-pin video connection on the back of the computer as shown to the right. Once connected, your laptop may automatically switch to the new external display or you may be required to press a sequence of keys in order to switch from the laptop to the external display.

Then press Fn + F3 & voila... you got dual monitor setup...

Lemme know if this helps :-)

To get the image on the external monitor, power up the monitor first then boot up the laptop. The image will divert to the external monitor automatically.

ACER ASPIRE 3680 LOOKS LIKE INK IS BLEEDING INK INSIDE OF IT..

It indeed is a fairly easy repair in case of your Acer. However you will need a replacement screen which would cost a lot if you order it new. You might be better off searching ebay for a broken "donor" laptop (make sure it's exactly the same model, as even similar models with same screen dimensions might have different connectors or inverters - I learned the hard way ;)

Good luck,
Raf

Cracked case

Hi there.
You can order spare parts from Acer themselves or alternatively look on Ebay for spare plastics.
It sounds like you need the lid face and bezel (plastic that surrounds the screen), as for disassembley i'm afraid its trial and error as you may have to take the laptop apart to replace the plastics.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
