Hello,i bought nokia 5800 before one week but i think it has a problematical gps.i have read this problems in other sites too.the only way to connect gps is to go to the roof of my house.there it takes about 15 minutes to connect and it is not accurate at all.when i walk on the street and open gps ,finds at least 4 satelites with good signal but it can not connect!i do not know what to do ?return back to nokia?or its a problematical model!also i have tried it next to an iphone 3g ,the iphone gps started immediately.i also have firmware 11.0.008.thank you for your time.i would be very gratefull if you could give me an answer.
Hi all I have a solution for fixing the internal GPS for the Nokia 5800. It will work as long as you leave the power on. If the phone is turned off you will have to repeat this very simple process. 1) Select Applications, and then open the application called, Location. 2) Select positioning. 3) Select positioning methods. 4) Tick Integrated GPS and Assisted GPS. 4) Select positioning server and Select automatic. Select access point and select. Then select gps data. Select options and select satellite status. When you have a satellite lock. Repeat 1), 2) 3) Then select Integrated GPS (ONLY), untick Assisted GPS.
What you have basically done here is lock onto the satellites through GPRS (phones internet). Then disconnected from the internet and still get a lock on the satellites just by using Integrated GPS. Hope this helps someone and someone can take this concept to get a better understanding of what and why this is happening. Maybe some wizard can create a phone patch.
Cheers to all, Colin Nelson, Kille, Scotland.
Reformat by *#7370# it should work alright
if not update firmware to version 20
Check if you can find some update to ur current firmwire..If its not there , return it to nokia.
It gt to have a good GPS.
The internal gps receiver of the 5800 is weak and unstable;
Perhaps a-gps could help but it's not an option for me and I disabled it.
I solved this problem buying an Bluetooth gps receiver with a sirfstar III chipset. Now navigation works like a charm on my 5800!
Btw, I dint like the nokia maps software. I use Garmin XT for Symbian S60 .....World of a diference...
For me changing profile to "offline" did the trick. When back at standard profile gps still works. Sometimes choosing "new location" (Garmin XT) will help. Sometimes nothing will. A-GPS is no option if you don't have a data plan with your phone carrier, I don't. Nokia messed up the GPS's integration badly. 500 meters from home testing, no fix, turned GPS off, back at last used location 10 minutes later (home): turn Garmin on, immediate fix!! Crazy.........
