How to disasseble the electrolux canister
This procedure works on almost all Electrolux plastic body canister vacuums. Caution: Always be sure that your machine is unplugged from the electrical outlet before servicing.
Remove the hose from the front cover and pull the electric cord out 2 or 3 feet. Remove the paper bag. Place the vacuum upside down on a work bench with some kind of pad underneath. Open the bag door and pull the end of the soft pastic rail cover out slightly (on both sides) to expose the rigid plastic side rails underneath. If you look directly at the side rails from the front you will see that the ‘T’ shaped part of each rail slides into a channel that locks the top and bottom halves of the machine together. The rails have notches or barbs on the last half inch or so which keep the rails from sliding out. You will need to get these notches away from the channel by sliding a narrow flat blade screw driver in between the top of the ‘T’ and the channel. Just tap it in and leave it there while you pull the rails out with a pair of needle nose pliers. Next, take a look at the bag door hinges. They have a square hole in the center through which a small tab from the bag compartment pokes through. Take a larger flat blade screwdriver and carefully pry the edge of the hinge away from the tab. This will release the bottom section (which is really on top now of course). If you remembered to pull out the two or three feet of cord before you started then you should now have enough slack so that you can lay the bottom section aside.
If you plan to do any electrical work be sure to mark the locations of the wire connections. Electrolux Service Centers are the only source of wiring diagrams

Usually you will find a brush assembly which includes the bearings. You could also be hearing the belt jumping across the brush gear if the belt is bad. If you order the parts online, you may want to get a brush and belt, since a belt won't be that much more money anyway. Aftermarket Aerus (formerly Electrolux) parts can be suspect sometimes, so I would suggest finding a dealer. You can go to their website to find the closest store. aerusonline.com Good Luck!!

You need to test the brush contacts using a multimeter to see if there is voltage.

The problem is usually with the wiring harness leading to the brush, a contact gets interrupted and the brush does not work.

The technician will check if there is voltage on the contacts to the brush tool using a multiveter like this one: pocket MultiMeter .

If there is no voltage the unit must be disassembled to fix the wiring problem.

My Ultra Lux 2000 beater bar still does not operate even after following manufacturer's instructions, per owner's manual. The vacuum shut off automatically when I accidentally caught it on plastic bag.

Make sure all threads, hair, and similar stuff is removed from brush, then try again.
Did you try switching the power nozzle switch off then on?
Does the power nozzle motor run? If not, and you've pressed the reset button, there's another problem. It could be a bad reset switch, or loose wires. There could also be threads or hair wrapped around the ends of the roller. This would prevent the brush from turning and shut the motor off.
If the motor runs, but the roller isn't turning, it's most likely a broken belt.
There is the possibility of the motor having burned out, but not likely.

A definite diagnosis would need to be made by a trained service tech at an authorized Aerus Electrolux store. The one nearest you can be found using the below link.

Electrolux vacuum power bar not turning

First thing is to push the circuit breaker button(reset button). If that dosen't work, check the belt. It could be broken.

I have a Electrolux , EL6988 Canister Vacum, howeveer the brushes and motor will not run when turned on. I have take the plates and cleaned around the brushes, but it will not come one. The vacum comes on...

Turn the brush unit upside down, so you can see the brush roller. Then, with the brush roller positioned nearest to you, you will find the reset button close to the rear edge, near the wheel that's on the right hand side as you look at it.
Good luck! I hope this works for you. I value your feedback. Please remember to rate this response.

There is a no filter safety device part #1130912-01, maybe the new filter isn't in quite like it should be or this device has gone bad. Also check the brush roll and make sure it turns easily, if not then that could be the cause.
