Question about HP LaserJet 8000 Printer
I have a HP laserjet 8000 that after about half of the paper is gone it says tray 2 is empty. Then it also says tray 3 is empty when it is full. I think the little black thing hanging down in there is the paper senser. It is in tack and I can not think of anything else to check to find out what is causing the issue. All of the rollers are all still good if that matters.
I install paper input units all the time for $275 including labor. HP printers are our only business.
I do agree that this sounds like it is indeed a PIU problem.

Do you hear the paper "drop" when you pull out the paper tray. If not, it could be a lift motor
You will have to pull the Paper Input Unit to repair it.
Small items are not available for us to purchase.
If you can't fix, you need a new unit. About $400.00
