Question about E-Machines M5305 Notebook
I own an Emachine M6410 that is not recognizing discs. It has a virus that will not let me pull up Windows. When I went to recover the hard-drive the driver did not respond in the DVD-ROM drive. I am guessing that the drive has failed. A year ago I found replacement drives for the Emachine M6410 laptop but this year they seem to have gone the way of the dodo. Any advice on where I can get one or perhaps it might not be a bad drive after all?
get hold of a boot cd or a windows install disk, set the boot options to boot from the cd drive, if the cd or dvd starts to boot and you get windows loading window then chances are that the lens on the drive is dirty and need cleaning, its also a possibility that the hard drive has bad sectors on it so setup can't write to the disk, hirens boot cd is a usefull tool to check for and recover bad sectors.
Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!
