Question about Acer Aspire One Netbook 8.9" Notebook

1 Answer

Cannot access the internet

We have been using the Aspire on the internet but suddenly cannot access it anymore (either wired or wireless and at different locations). We can access the internet with our other computers so it is not our internet. I have even used the recovery DVD but still it will not connect. Can you give some suggestions? Is it a hardware problem where we have to take it for repair. It still is under warranty.

This is running on Linx Lite v1.0.7.E and under networks LAN: realtek RTL8102E PCO express fast ethernet controller and wifi: aatheros AR5006EG 802.11 b/g wireless PCI express adapter (rev 01)

There are no yellow circles etc. and in the connection management there is a LAN connection that is set for obtaining an IP address automatically (DHCP) and obtaining the DNS server address automatically (DHCP). The driver is r8101 and the hardware address is 00:1E:68:B1:98:A0

I haven't worked with Linux before and because everything worked OK I didn't have to figure out what is comparable to Windows in setting up the network, etc. It just worked!!!

I am not sure how I am to respond to you, billspeer, as this is the only window I can find. There was no reply button to reply directly to you. I trust you will get this OK.

Ah. Unfortunately, I should have asked for your OS as well. I have no experience with Linux and wouldn't like to BS youwith a guess. Perhaps someone who does have the expertise will see this. You may even try posting it in a Linux question area. Sorry I can't help further.

2 things I'd like you to check. Right click MyComputer, choose Properties, then the Hardware tab. Click on Device Manager and under Network Adapters is there anything that shows a yellow circle with a black exclamation point or even a red X? If it's a red X, right click and choose Enable. If it's ! then choose update drivers ( I doubt this will be the case).
Second, go to Start>Run and type in cmd to open a DOS window. Type in ipconfig /all and tell me what it reads. Specifically, I'm looking for your IP address and if it's set for DHCP. Let me know.

Acer Aspire 5733 Wireless connection lost

Check the wireless router and high-speed modem.

If the two are not powered on, or if the Ethernet cable connected the two is not completely inserted into both connection ports, you are unable to access the Internet on the Acer Aspire One laptop computer.

Activate the wireless Internet connection on the laptop computer.

Right-click the wireless icon on the desktop, then choose "Enable" from the pop-up menu.

Without activating the wireless receiver on the Acer Aspire One, the laptop is unable to detect any wireless network.

Select the appropriate network you wish to connect to.

Your computer may be attempting to connect to a different Internet connection, preventing you from access the network you desire. Right-click the wireless icon, select "Search for available wireless networks," then choose the network you want to access.

Restart the computer.

The system may have booted and failed to detect the wireless receiver. Restarting the computer corrects this issue.

hope this helps

Thinkpad Lenovo - suddenly no internet

How do you connect to the internet? Are you going through a wireless router or using a usb device provided by a cellphone provider?

Maybe you need to check your settings on the broadband service since you mentioned it. You could also reinstalled the broadband application if it is not solved.

My acer aspire one wont connect to internet. it says it is connected to wireless, and i have wired it to modem but the problem still persists. please help.

Based on your description, the following is assumed.
    1. The service to your Internet Service Provider is through a cable or DSL modem.
    2. Internet service was initially set-up with your netbook directly connected to the modem.
    3. A wireless router was since added and is using the direct wired connection to the modem.
    4. The netbook is connected to the wireless access point being provided by the router.
    5. The netbook says it is connected to the wireless access point but still no internet access.
The problem is likely due to the modem capturing the MAC address of the netbook when access to the internet servce was initially set up using the netbook directly connected to the modem and now the modem will only allow access with the netbook directly connected to it. You can check this out by reconnecting the netbook directly to the modem. It may be possible to "flush" the captured MAC by unplugging the AC power to the modem, waiting a few minutes and then powering back up with the router connected in place of the netbook. To make it easier, you may want connect your netbook directly to the router's LAN side to check if you now have internet access through the router. If you still don't have internet access, you will need to use your netbook to log onto the router to clone your netbook's MAC address for the router's WAN connection. The router's user guide/manual has directions on logging in and doing the MAC address clone. It will also have an explanation as to what is a MAC address.

restart your comp and your router, if that doesnt help try and update your drivers to your wireless card in your comp., if everything is updated and the wireless in you comp is searching then it might be the router, they commonly overheat for heavy use
