unless you want to take the drive to a data recovery specialist buschchrist1 is right. If you want to find a local data recovery shop just go to and search for data recovery

If its external and its corupt and windows just won tgive you access, your most likely bonned.

Youcan try using some special utilities to see if you can recover them but often times windows just wont do it.

Usually what happens is the partition gets corrupt and windows cant tell if its NTFS or FAT and just says, " Its corrupt" and thats the end of it.

You may have to re-partition it to get it working if formatting it doesnt work.

Perhaps if the HDD has not been damaged. HDD's can be very delicate , external HDD's can get bumped about at times, rendering them useless. Remove the HDD from the case, using a USB to IDE/SATA Adapter ,or, a computer shop, try to test/read the disk. It can be read, but I'm not sure you want to pay the price it may cost. It can be quite expensive, and requires specialized equipment.

Internal hard disk drive not found To resolve this issue, try to reseat the drive. No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics.

it looks like your hard drive has crashed but before i confirm you need to try these steps first.1:remove the hard drive if its a SATA make sure the connectors on the drive and laptop are clean, if not clean it. if its an IDE check for any bent or broken pins.2: connect your hard drive to another pc or laptop using an external cable and if it is detected try and retrieve as much information from it as possible and format it with the quick format option deselected.3:if you dont have an external cable to connect it after you have physically cleaned the hard drive, mount it back in the laptop and check to see if it still gives the error. if it does run a windows installation setup from a disk and see if it recognises your hard drive. you can then format it from there and reinstall the operating system on it. 4: if non of the above methods dont work you should consider replacing your hard drive.

My laptop is not booting. It gives some sort of I/O error about the hard disk. So I ran Ubuntu Live so that i can create a back up of the data. Now, the hard disk does not show in my computer. But it shows...

The computer hard drive has broken, not alot you can do about this any attemp to format will fail and partition too will fail, you can remove the hard drive from your computer and plug it into an external hard drive caddy and then plugging it into your system via the USB port on it, depends on how badly it is damage you might be able to retrieve some data if not all but please be aware if it is badly damage it might not work at all,

Safeboot corrupted (error 92h)

Check the BIOS setting to see if the hard disk is detected. If not either the hard disk controller or the hard disk is faulty.

First thing I would try is to remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and then plug this adapter into a working computer's USB port. If this computer sees this hard drive as an external hard drive and you can open the various folders and files, then I would backup your data.
If the hard drive is not detected then the hard drive is dead and data cannot be retrieved with this method.

Retrieving data from damaged hard disk is possible. There are companies that can remove the disk platters from the damaged hard drive and with special equipment may be able to recover your data, but it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

I have a computer with a dead hard drive. I would

See if you can boot a CD or DVD with Ubuntu on it.
They are generally recognized very well on IBM and Lenovo laptop computers. You will be able to run the OS entirely off the CD without touching the hard drive, access the internet, etc.

You may be able to see and mount the file system of your dead or failing hard drive and select your working files off it.... Don't bother to recover your OS, or products for which you already have installation media or other backups....

Just grab your pictures, music, documents, etc. that matter to you.

If the disk you have uses S.M.A.R.T. drive monitoring, then you can try using the disk utility to read its state ( System > Administration > Disk Utility ). This should tell you whether you disk is dead or something else may have happened to your system to make it look your hard drive died.

Good luck!

Computer does not open to Vista. Startup repair keeps popping up and will not go further! Computer says that it cannot repair and it has a corrupt registry! Help

You will need a copy of Vista on disk or a copy of xp to load. Unfortunately, newer computers do not come with these disks. Most people do not want to take the time to create a recovery disk when a new computer prompts you to do so.
If there are files on the disk that you cannot afford to lose, a computer repair shop may be able to copy them for you. As an alternative you may want to get a new hard drive for the computer and an external enclosure for your old hard drive to retrieve your files.
Good Luck.

Windows xp pro will not boot with new hard drive

Its hard to tell just like this without having the computer in hand to check and test the jumpers and connection and all, but quick like this i think it might be a trojan virus that corrupted the boot sectors of the old hard drive, and when you copied the stuff from the old to the new, the virus followed and infected the boot sectors of the new one too. Try to reformat completely using the original windows install disk, and not the system restore/reinstall disk and reinstall windows after the format with the original windows disk again. If I was right, it should boot up OK with a fresh format and reinstall with the real windows CD, then install a virus scan and a spyware scan and scan and clean the old drive completely 2 or 3 times to be sure theres nothing bad left on it, then try to copy the whole disc, but skip the Windows repertory, the Program Files one too and the Documents and settings one also, cause those 3 are the ones most prone to corrupting a fresh install even if there is not any viruses in them. If it does not boot up OK after formating and reinstalling Windows though and says it's unbootable, then either there is a config error in the BIOS of the laptop, or the IDE controller that drives the disk is defective. If it's the BIOS settings, it's gonna be easy enough just changing the settings and won't cost you too much, and if its the IDE controller... then that's another story cause it's integrated in the motherboard like any other computer, so basically another computer will cost less than a new motherboard for a laptop. So if that is the case and the IDE controller is shot, you can still try to use an external USB drive to run the computer but not all computers support booting from the USB though, so before buying a brand new external drive, check the BIOS first to see if it does support USB booting.

Repair harddisc have data change from ntsf format to fat

If you in fact formatted your HDD you need to take the drive to a drive recovery center or get the tools to hook the drive up to a working laptop/desktop and use recovery software like Ontrack Recovery Manager.
