Question about Dell Dimension 1100 PC Desktop

DVD Player Sound chopped

After a re-install of Windows XP Professional on my Dell Dimension 1100 Desktop (withadded DVD Player) all is OK sound-wise until I try to play a DVD (film). I have downloaded Windows player update, no good. AVS Player Chopped Sound) and Nero asks for a Dolby download (30 day trial) but could not locate exact download on their site.

I installed ''Free'' Driver Detective, to find that you have to register for £29.00 (I thnk) before the fix/recommended driver downloads are given. (I hate these FREE to download things that arren't in effect.)

The Driver detective says it found 6 problems:

(Out of date driver, bridges etc)

Any comments, sound is fine when watching on line videos (Camtasia ones for example)

Thanks

Graham

Windows media player came up with this balloon

Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.
    Unquote. Any suggestions now anyone?

I don't know what my graphics card is and I do not believe I have downloaded a codec pack (I only have if its another name or part of the Video drivers I downloaded from the Dell Download site, I'll go and look there now. Let me know how I find out what graphics card I have..?

This is a known problem with WMP.. It cannot play protected files without plugins.. What you can do is use VLC player which is free n does'nt require any plugins whatsoever.. but still if you need video drivers here's the link

The sound is integrated onto the motherboard in this model, it isn't a separate card.

In addition to installing the operating system (Windows XP) you will need to install the drivers for the system.  If you system is a Dell Dimension 1100 you can get the drivers from this link:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_CEL_1100&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Driver installation order is:
Desktop system software (R121089.exe) Intel Chipset Utility (R96614.exe) Intel Video Driver (R104515.exe) Audio Driver (R105155.exe) Network Driver (R105786.exe) Modem Driver (R133743.exe or R73044.exe)
Once you have all the drivers installed, then you can install your applications and configure your internet connection.
