Question about Nikon COOLPIX S710 Digital Camera

1 Answer

When i turn on the camera, it always asks me to set time and date. If i click on yes, then i have to enter all the details as to the date, time, place. Also, the MP size defaults to 14MP instead of the previous setting, for e.g., if i had previously set it to 5MP, it would go back to 14MP after I turn the camera off and on.

I have the same problem, it seems that Nikon is aware of this problem with the S710 series, but of course, doesn't acknowlegde officially. It seems that the problem can only be solved by replacing one of the main components, which is quite costly if not under warranty.

Me too. My Nikon Coolpix S710 camera (a gift) lasted just past 30 day return period of Amazon.com, now every time I turn it on it asks me to set the time and date, and it won't remember it the next time I turn it on. Idiotic. My last Nikon.

mine just started this last night, after a difficult time transferring the photos from the camera to my computer. I'm going to contact Nikon if the solution above doesn't work. This camera was new in January 09, I've barely used it! Compared to my old S1 (never, ever had a problem) this one is annoying.

I agree, I started having the same problem where it keeps asking me everytime I start the camera and all previous settings have dissappeared!!!!! for ex: setting the mega pixel always reverts to 14, menu displays by line ... etc.. is there a fix for this...or is it just faulty. Dihan

Well, I have the same problem. Just introduce once the date and time. Turn off the camera. then turn the camera on using the button for presentation of pics (right arrow). You will see the last picture taken. Press again and you will be in shoot mode. The date and tame will be there. It is a bit fuzzy but works,

1. In Set Up you must select the language you want to use by highlighting it then PRESS OK. If you don't do this then the date/time will not set.
2. When asked to set date and time you must select YES and press OK.
3. After completing each step you must press OK.
4. In the final step you must choose your preferred day/month/year display and then press OK.
If you don't press the OK button at each step the date and time will not set.

Dear Expert, I have a problem with my Samsung L100 camera with the time and date. Somehow when I have uploaded the pictures onto my computer it gives the date of the future for example: May 21st 2013....

The date of your pictures is from the date you took it, So, it must be that last year, May 2010, when took those pictures, your camera's date was not set to 2010. You must also know that when a camera's battery is totally drained and stocked for a long time, the date will be reset. So next time make sure that your date is always right on your camera. =)

But here is a good news. You can just change the dates now after downloading it to your computer. Go to the picture you want to change the date, right click on it and choose properties. Click on details, then "date taken" and change it to any date you want.

I hope this helped you.

Camera Canon A710 IS started to ask set time date when turned on

When the camera is left without power for an extended period of time, the time and date settings are gone. You need to reset them and when you're finished, click the set/ok button twice.

Date and time settings

The date battery needs to be replaced. It is a coin-type battery, CR1220. It fits in a holder that slides out from the bottom of the camera, opposite the side from the battery cover for the regular batteries. When putting the new battery in the holder, the negative side of the battery should be visible. Illustrated instructions are on page 87 of the Advanced User Guide.

Date time setting does not program

There is not an option to remember the date/time when you power off the camera. The camera should always remember the time. If it forgets the setting when you power it off then your backup battery has gone dead. Check your manual to see if it is something you can replace yourself. I am not familiar with this camera specifically but some cameras make the backup battery accessible and some require disassembly. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
