Question about HP Officejet 6310 All-In-One InkJet Printer

HP 6310 won't scan through feeder

We just bought this printer about a month ago. Now, the feeder will not work when scanning documents. I can scan using the flatbed only. Whenever I try to use the feeder it says "Reload document, Press OK to continue."

We have checked through the whole printer trying to figure out if anything is broken but doesn't see any issues. Anybody have ideas?

SOURCE: HP LaserJet 2840 Scanner problem

Yes, but I don't see any actual paper jams. I have a Vista O/S and I've been reading that that might be the problem; the 2840 scanner driver is not compatible with the Vista O/S and HP hasn't produced a solution yet. I appreciate your efforts, thanks.

SOURCE: keeps asking to load original in document feeder

This has a happy ending. But first, the obligatory narrative:
The HP site has advice on how to deal with a document feeder that doesn't detect your document. It doesn't talk about the opposite problem, which is what molecular is describing. I had the identical problem yesterday. I'd place the original on the glass and it kept demanding that I put the original in the feeder. So I got into a chat session with the HP technician. Her advice, (based on the possibility that a power surge had created the problem) unplug from everything, restart, and retry. The problem persisted. I told her so. She broke the connection. Nice.
So here is how I fixed it. Using the Setup button>Tools>3. Restore factory defaults, I returned the device to its factory settings. I put the original on the glass and it made the copy without a problem.
Here is a pure speculation. There are at least two ways to enter settings related to two-sided copying. I had used one to enter the settings (two-sided original to two-sided copy, as it happens) and later tried to use another button to change those settings. I noticed the 2-sided settings did not change. I believe the feeder is the default for two-sided copying. So when the system failed to clear the settings, it failed to clear the default. Once I returned all settings to the factory originals, the problem disappeared.

Can't scan- Refer to device documentation to

Try using widows paint. Look in windows accessories off the start program menu. If you open windows paint, look for open file from "Scanner or Camera". Most likely you can get the scanner to work again in Vista. Otherwise...try Vuescan scanner software. I think you can get a free trial period online and it should also work. You'll have to pay for that if you like it.

When copying, vertical lines appear on copy not the ink cartridge, they are new

clean the scanning glass with a lint free cloth as well as the glass from your top document feeder and the rollers in the top feeder. the glass may not look dirty but the scanning bulb is so intense it picks up any little particle of dust lint etc. what ever you do do not spray glass/lens cleaner on the glass, spray it on the cloth.

Trying to scan pics on HP Officejet 7110. Press 'Start Scan,; display on printer shows 'Scanning to Microsoft Outlook' for over one minute. I can hear the machine scanning and see the scan light working....

Nothing in or jamming document feeder tray.
Change the setup to scan to a file, rather than email.
Try a different USB port.
Reboot all.
Reinstall printer/scanner drivers and software.

When faxing does paper face uup or down

You load the originals print side uo on the document feeder tray or print side down on the glass.
To send a single page fax you can either load the original on document feeder tray or on the glass; to send a multi-page fax you must use the document feeder tray.

The position of the paper is the same either you copy, fax or scan.
All this is clearly explained in the user's manual, that you should read and you can download from HP support pages for you printer:
