I got a rentall phone about a month and a half ago and yesterday it started giving me this odd message when i tried sending texts. . "message sending failed number not in use" and oddly enough my phone adds a +1 then the number, so i took out the 1 and it worked. my phone was dead for a few hours and i tried sending a text tonight and it wont send ANY texts. .
Don't be a foolish guys thats not a solution! in this case he wanted to fix it by its self, not by contacting the costumer service. so the solution is try to delete all messages from inbox and outbox, then try to send a new message and voila it is working

If your phone is activated than you miss the "Message Center Number", First call to your service provide and ask to the message center number after getting the number, go to the Messaging>Message Setting>Text Message>Message Center write the number and save.
A phone phone has several messages making trac phone malfunction due to memory and satorage conditions. Free the phone of the messages, should receive messages and send. consider letting the personn sending messages to free space in their phones else there will be one way commuincation
it sounds as if the message centre numbe is incorrect contact your service provider and get the correct message number as each serivice provider had differant message centre number !! if that still fails ask your service provider coiuld they configure your message settings for you !!
most probably you have disabled the CLI thing. In which your cell tries
to prevent your number being shown to the person you are calling. It is usually under Network settings, or Call settings (CLI/Show my number/Send my Number).
