First of all thanx for responding in .... secondly i have it based it on a table nothing soft or as such ,,, if at all it was a heating problem as you say what would be the best cure for it ... FYI one of my friend says that it might be that my CPU fan might have a problem saying that not functioning properly or toomuch dust in it and needs to be replaced do you suggest the same ???

I have the same problem. I called technical support & ofcourse they did not have a solution. There is no heating prob. I think this Lenovo Y410 is a total failure model & it has given me lots of trouble. I will not recomend this product to anyone.

i have got it cleaned and serviced from lenovo service center but am still facing the problem. Service center suggests me to change heat sink which is nothing but a copper rod. and everyone knows copper is a good conductor of heat then what can be wrong with it?

My Y410 does the same thing. lenovo will give every answer but the CPU is getting too hot. They do not want to admit this laptop is a POS. No more lenovo laptops for me.

Sounds to me that you have an overheating problem. Can you hear the fan come on? Can you feel the hot air being pusheed away from the computer? Have you got it sitting on something soft like a bed or pillow or something which is stopping the intake of fresh air?

It could be that you have accumulated a lot of dust, fibres, etc that are sitting on top of the processor cooling fins and limiting the amount of airflow around it. It shuts down to protect itself and other components from overheating. It's a simple job to clean it with a can of comressed air made expressly for this task. Any good computer shop will have this.
It could also be that the fan has stopped working, but it is quite audible and you would soon notice that your laptop was silent.

1. Check to make sure that you have good air flow around the laptop, including sides and bottom.
2. Make sure fan/heatsink area is clear of dirt, etc. If you are using the laptop in an environment where there is a lot of dust, it will clog up the fan/heatsink.
Check the Lenovo support forum to see how the clogged heatsink looks. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y560-overheating-and-shutting-down/m-p/677023
Be aware to get to access to the insides, will require dis-assembly of the laptop. Best left to experts.

Try to disassamble your laptop and clean the dust from it, and make sure the processor fan is working.

Computer have a mechanism to protect the processor from overheating that can damage them, soo it will shutdown automatically.

My laptop y410 is getting switched off all of sudden while running, it happens any time like within 1 hr, 2 hr or any time . kindly suggest if it is a software issue or hardware issue.

Hi There and Welcome to FixYa!

Seems like you're having an intermittent "shut down" issues with your Y410. One thing that I recommend for you to determine if this is a Software or Hardware issue is to try and see if the problem occurs when in BIOS screen.

Here's how to get to the BIOS screen :
  • Shut down your computer
  • Restart it and tap on "F2" key repeatedly
  • BIOS will start
Leave your computer for say, an hour or so and see if the problem would occur. If it does, then I strongly recommend that you take this computer to the nearest repair center to get it fixed.

Similarly, if the problem did not materialize in BIOS, then all you need to do is to back up your important files and reload your Operating system in order to correct the problem.

I hope this helps, Thank you for using Fixya

What did not happen?

No, because the NERO software is one of the best products.

You could try a different product;
access: http://www.MajorGeeks.com
and download "AShampoo Burning Version 6" _free_ software, install it, and try it.
